ccr, more forums more forums to go moderate. I think if we were going to have a special occasions forum we may as well use the open forum.
In the past there have been suggestions on separate forums for classic, moderns, etc. No one really wanted those forums because they enjoyed reading about other coins.
I like it just the way it is! I like seeing and posting submission results, love reading Clankeye's stories and yes I do think he should post one every week also! When you go on vacation the dog with the cigar and me will run the place for ya!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!
In the last few weeks here are a few of the complaints.................
"What do you think of this auction?" "Is this A/T?" "My results are in" "Did this person cheat me?/This person cheated me!"
What kind of ½ baked moron would complain about those subjects? The scum seller that listed the auction........ The Dealers who screw us collectors by selling us AT junk............. The igmo that is mad because his 25 State Quarters came back as AU......... The Dealers that cheat us collectors then get mad when exposed............
Get the idea?
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
You are too wise to fall into this trap set by a loud minority. As I review the current top page on the US coin forum I see:
8 Questions and Answers about coins. 4 Questions and Answers about grading companies. 2 Questions and Answers about coin auctions Fun natured jabs between members, similar to what you would see between friends at a party. New members introducing themselves and members providing a warm welcome. A dealer who contributes to the forum sharing the growth of their organization. Anouncement of the ariival of a long anticipated book written by one of our members Announcement of a free database of PCGS coins auctioned on eBay A real life story of the happenings of coins, dealers, ethics, unwritten rules, dealer organizations....a real eye opener
Carol, there is someting here for most everyone and I find each of those items above worthy of the US Coin forum. Of course there are the car wrecks. And unfortunately we all say how awful they are but as you can tell by the reply counts we all stop to watch. For those that don't care for the wrecks I would suggest they simply drive by and don't look.
Thank you PCGS. I enjoy your US Coin Forum very much.
Carol, I know you didn't want to let me post again on this topic but....
1) I think you do a great job of balancing things, especially considering it's extremely unlikely that all of us will ever be happy at the same time, regardless of the topic.
2) I think this is a great forum, for many of the reasons which have already been stated by others in this and in other threads.
Good post fatman, Just looking at your flag picture and noticed for the first time that the sun coming thru the flag takes on the shape of a cross, cool.
Pennies make dollars, and dollars make slabs!
....inflation must be kicking in again this dollar says spend by Dec. 31 2004!
Carol You have done a great job since I have been a member, and watched the boards grow from 60 to 6,000? With so many different personalities involved it would be impossable to please all.I agree with Elcontador. The members that are imature and call people Scumbags,Jurks,Idiots,I just dont open /or read there posts . Overall I think all is OK,but do agree the subject/description of a new thread should be more descriptive.Al
You'd be surprised by the number of people who complain that they need to "wade through all the junk" to get to what they consider a coin topic.
Fatman:
I don't think I'm falling in to a trap but I do want honest opinion is some of the complaints are widely held but few are voicing or the complaints of a few that are vocal. I have no way of knowing without asking. I think the boards are doing well, but there can always be improvement.
I'm not for more rules but I'm open to the majorities opinion. I see a request for a tokens, medals, etc forum. I'm willing to consider it if the people requesting really feel they can keep it going.
I'll see you in LB Coinguy1. I may have a new cheer made up by then... coinguy, coinguy he's our man ...
I like the forums as they are.. With so many people, some will never be happy, and no matter what changes may be made, it will still have issues and will never be perfect. It seems to me that whatever changes may be made, most would probably thank your efforts but you will still get complaints, some members here insist on the boards running to their perscriptions.... as for me, if you make changes cool, if you don't, still cool....

Carol, I and many others are tired of the ebay threads which complain about how much shipping is charged, how misdescribed the coin is etc. None of these topics add to the hobby. Also the registry has again started to turn into an ebay. Imagine if all us that sold PCGS coins on ebay started posting them in the registry. It's been self-policing because most of us refrain from doing so, but imagine if all chose to do this.
<< <i>You'd be surprised by the number of people who complain that they need to "wade through all the junk" to get to what they consider a coin topic. >>
Translated, they're complaining they have to wade through threads that don't interest them to find threads that do interest them. There's always coin-related threads right here on the first page.
There's some question that a token and medal forum can fly. There's enough interest but many prefer to post them where more people will see them and/or where they're more relevant. If people who are inter- ested would use it then it should be able to get at least a few threads each day.
Coin collectors & dealers for the most part are (is, were, whatever) geeks and nerds anyway who whine and cry and take offense to EVERYTHING.
You guys should do what I do; if the topic isn't something you want to read THEN DON'T CLICK ON IT!!! Clicking on a thread just to make yourself mad and have something to complain about is pretty dumb if you ask me.
I've found out that if I ask carolj to handle an abusive troll post she will.
Maybe we should do it the Fascist way: You guys can post about anything you want to as long as I think it interesting and appropriate.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
Well, my reply is redundant. I agree with everyone here. We all have free will to read AND to respond to a thread or not. I have learned so much about coins, but also about selling coins, from tips and likes/dislikes about ebay and paypal and shipping, etc, that all of those tangential topics are indeed useful here.
Just keep out the people who swear or insult, and we'll be fine!
Why don't you further limit the attachments to the signature line? They only take up useful space and are pure clutter. Nothing more than someone trying to stroke their own ego.
There won't be any additional limitations on the sig lines. People have been good about sizes, etc. but to put further limitations would require more moderation. At this point if the majority couldn't go along with the existing rules we would need to turn it off completely and that really wouldn't be fair.
One thing that really irritates me is that some members open/respond to threads they know they dont agree with. For example, on any thread dealing with moderns, certian members will join in with nothing constructive at all. IF YOU DONT HAVE ANYTHING CONSTRUCTIVE TO ADD, DONT OPEN THE THREAD AND REPLY, please!
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Problem solved! Too many egos on these boards. If you can't say something nice, or add constuctive advice Don't respond. Let it go
The great use of life is to spend it on something that will outlast it--James Truslow Adams
Carol, I really don't understand why people get so uptight with a few of these threads. I find most are appropiately titled, so I can avoid the ones that don't interest me. Seems like there are some people here acting like juveniles, running to mommy because there is a thread they don't like. I can imagine the amount of time you must spend with some of these people who seem to forget they are adults when they show up here.
To directly answer your question, I don't think you have to do anything as far as creating new forums. I do think there are a few posters that never offer anything constructive that need to get the boot.

Hey!! It's the only way we get any attention from you!! The Litesiders & denizens of the OF get all your attention! We've learned from their antics that the squeaky wheels get the grease!! ... even if it comes with eyes rolled heavenward and heavy sighing and muttering.
Really, the only threads that need to go are the flamers. Their fire and brimstone would be better used on bin Laden and his pals.
<< <i>Do we need a medals, etc forum? Do you really believe that there is enough interest to keep the forum going? >>
No, there's not enough interest yet ... but the Dark Side started out with two guys explaining once a week what "Dei gratia" meant. I think what several members are doing by trying to grow interest in the General Collectibles Forum for exonumia is a very good idea. If it grows to where, say, a couple dozen folks are wanting an Exonumia Forum, then go ahead and add it. The GCF is a perfect place, IMHO, to experiment with interest in different collecting themes.
Really, Carol, you're doing a great job with as crazy a thrown-together family as there could ever be!! Just give a good wackin' where it's occasionally needed.

I would never call and coin person a nerd or geek
I'm all for trying to get people to be more descriptive in their titles so how do we do that?
See what your response would be to the new forum for tokens etc and let me know. Possibly start a thread in World & Ancients.
See what happens when you don't spell check!

I'd like more Barber quarter posts. And maybe an occasional one about the '69 Seattle Pilots. They're the only ones I read!

Thanks. It is a fun place.
If the topic isn't specific enough, or doesn't interest you, simply don't open it.
If your curiousity about a topic influences you to open the thread, don't complain about. As the old cliche goes, .... Just be prepared to be killed.
Carol,
I agree with your sentiments. On one hand "censorship is evil;" on the other hand, "censor threads to my satisfaction."
I do NOT envy you your position.

As for Carl's Story's I miss them. Monday's aren't the same anymore.
I am all for self indulgent ego stroking, I couldn't live without.
