The COOLEST coin designs! No duplicates, please!

Post a great picture of a great piece of numismatic art. Here are the rules:

1. It doesn't have to be toned.
2. If it's an ugly design but toned, for the sake of the thread, it's still ugly and is BANNED! (Sorry, Ike!)
3. It doesn't have to be a US coin. Heck, it doesn't even have to be a coin. Show us your tokens and medals?
4. If someone already posted the coin, you cannot post another of the same design.

This should be fun!

I have ALWAYS loved the defiant eagle design, the one that RKKAY has for his icon.

Take a look at it. It is a cool eagle!!

Medallic art can be strikingly beautiful Askari! Though it does have coinage struck for circulation at a disadvantage in that it need not be very practical for mass production. I don't think you're playing fair. image

Hey, I'm playing by Andy's rules, OIB! imageimage Many great coin designers were great medallists and often studied at famous schools. These medallic designs often found themselves inspiring coinage designs. St. Gaudens is a prime example, but also Morgan -- producers of some of the finest US designs of all time. The challenge was to render a beautiful design at much lower relief ... not an easy task!

Speaking of Morgan, here are a couple other medals reminiscent of the US Morgan and my German pattern above, and one akin to the classic Liberties.

OK, I was just poking at ya with a small stick anyways. image

Quite a few beautiful medals out there, and for that matter, many great high-relief ancients that were the inspiration for Teddy Roosevelt and Augustus St.G in their designing efforts of 1907.

How does it not turn into a mainly darkside thread? Compare the total number of worldwide coin designs to the number of TRULY ORIGINAL US coin designs...

I'm off in search of more fun coin pix (not all US if I can find the ones I want to find).

All nice, but I still think The Franklin Half Dollar is by far the most beautiful coin design in the history of mankind. The design principle of simplicity at its finest.image
    Don't you think so Lucy?
Actually, I love franklins, but too me, BU is Boring. It's the color, and the availabilty of the color, that captured my interest years ago.
I like so many it would be hard to pick. So many countries have turned out so many beautiful works of art. So for me, an impossible question.
