From PCGS slab to PCGS bodybag...

I had the pleasure of doing a trade for a 1955 DDO Lincoln last week. My MS63RD for a MS64RB (old green label holder circa 1989 and a check for the difference. At Baltimore I decided the coin was really nice enough to crack and submit for an MS65 (although perhaps MS65BN). The coin came back a few hours later in a body bag, PVC residue.
I could have accepted a downgrade, a same grade (worth the $100 show fee) or of course an upgrade but never in my wildest dreams did I think the coin, that went from "crack" to "sack" (polybag that is) would ever bodybag due to PVC residue. Keep in mind it was in a PCGS holder for over a decade.
Makes me wonder about copper coins in holder (again!) I know the PVC grows over time, but I didnt think it would inside the slab. I sent it back for review, asking to point out the PVC residue. I'm not optimistic, but cant hurt to ask!

Too bad it couldn't have gone in for review under PCGS's copper guarantee first.

That's what happens when you crack a slab, all bets are off and anything can happen. Unless a collector really knows his coins he should use the Regrade Service where the coin stays in the slab.
Coins will indeed change in a slab. There's the proof, but it took 8-12 years to change because that's how long ago it was holdered.
It doesn't look like a good upgrade candidate to me. What did you see in it?

Looking for Nationals, Large VF to AU type, 1928 Gold, and WWII Emergency notes. Also a few nice Buffalo Nickels and Morgan Dollars.

Also, from the image, it is clearly a BN coin. Sorry about your situation.
"Seu cabra da peste,
"Sou Mangueira......."
This is the exact reason that I leave well enough alone and not crack my coins out.
Cheers,

Bob, I'm starting to feel your pain!
NEVER LET HIPPO MOUTH OVERLOAD HUMMINGBIRD BUTT!!!
WORK HARDER!!!!
Millions on WELFARE depend on you!
submit, submit, submit, again, again, again
bummer though -
those 55 DDO's are hard not to like!!! just like the 83 reverse, it drives me nuts to be able to see the doubling so clearly without any aid. but.......
looking at the holdered coin it's hard to imagine that you would believe the coin to even have a chance at anything besides BN in whatever grade, so i would wonder why it wasn't submitted in the holder for at least that downgrade. PCGS would have had a hard time not reholdering it at the same grade but BN and they would have been forced to buy back the coin and at least make you whole.
one thing i'm coming to believe is that the majority of upgrade candidate green holdered coins are gone. most of what i see left in those holders is dissappointing. the same holds true for the majority of the smaller first generation rattlers. about the only winning i see in them is where they haven't been designated as CAM/DCAM or FS, FBL and so on. as far as grade, i don't see much worth the chance.
