please grade this 32-S Washington

GeomanGeoman Posts: 2,491 ✭✭✭
I am thinking about getting this 1932-S Washington Quarter. My coin budget is so that I only can afford a low-grade coin. The person I may buy it from says it is a F+ grade, and wants $75, plus $5 shipping. Do you feel the grade and price is correct and reasonable? Thanks for your opinions!

I would say that it's a F-12, but those scratches are really distracting. After seeing a G-4 for $66 this weekend, $80 seems reasonable.

Good buy despite the nose gash.

those marks at the nose will always bug you, and make you want a different '32-S someday.

at that point, the coin, even though a key date, will be difficult to sell for more than a VG price.

    I'd keep looking.

  • Actually, with the weak strikes that most of those coins had, F+ is probably a good grade (even "knocking on the VF door"). However, with the nicks, I personally would not touch it (unless the decimal point moved one figure to the left).

I also love Major Circulation Strike Type Sets, clad Washingtons ('65 to '98) and key date coins !!!!!

Thanks. Those marks by the nose really do distract me. I think I'll pass.
  • I've just completed a complete high grade Washington Set, I'm going back now to upgrade some of the ms63 and ms64's and see coins in my set that I wouldn't buy today. I bought some of these coins just to fill holes not thinking ahead about reselling this coin some day. I will probably have a hard time reselling some of the better dates because I just don't find them attractive. Buy the best coin you can find in the grade you're looking for and you'll be satisfied. image

I defintely think F-12, but agree with everyone...the scratches/damage make this one to pass over.

i think the coin is very attractive, but those marks are right in the prime focus area. like others said even if the price is good, all you'll ever see are those marks.

  • Pass on this coin! Be patient, I got an AU55 for $90 on auction thats goregeous. This coin looks sand blasted, and it has several ugly distracting marks.

Ignoring issues re cleaning, etc., that coin's close to a low end VF with all of the hair detail on the obverse. You can even see some feathers on the eagle's breast on the reverse.

Still, with those distracting marks in the focal view of the coin, it is a problem coin and should be avoided.

Fine-12, probably cleaned at one time, but in this grade it should not matter.
