THINK I WILL SEND MY COINS TO NGC

GLAD I FOUND THIS PLACE BEFORE SUBMITTING MY COINS
after all the talk about finger prints overgrading, undergrading,
and the constant flaming of Hall and his owning pcgs and a large coin
shop.
I think your odds are better at ngc and you might even get the grade you
expected!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The big three are great. I submitt to all three for different reasons.
As long as you stick to them you'll be fine, its when you wonder off that creates problems.

Hey Lucy are you a broken record?
All I hear is you repeating the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Lucy now look what you have done. All I can say is over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.
  • Well, I can say (IMO) that PCGS has tightened up a full point on Morgan Dollars. I must give their customer service a cudo. They were friendly and did call me back. But I think I will use NGC from now on! But I will be on the lookout for recently PCGS graded MS64 and MS65 Morgans!!

I think all three of the big grading services have these same issues to some extent. When handling coins finger prints will happen sometimes- there is no getting around this. The undergrading and overgrading has always been an issue and alway's will be. I think David Hall has done a fine job defening himself with so many ready to flame him- much better than I could have done. It has been open public knowledge that PCGS and DHRC are together. I like NGC and PCGS they are both fine services along with ANACS- I don't think you could go wrong with sending your coins to either service. Mike
  • I work and collect on a fairly small playing field where the dollar investments are not super-high.

But with that said, I've been very satisfied with my PCGS results and customer service to date. The few problems I've had have been handled in a very professional way. I have seen (mostly) consistent grading and handling of both my retail and collection coins.

My collecting life was not as good as it has been since I joined these forums. Also, PCGS has definitely made my extra-income home business much better, as well.

By the way, welcome to the forums!

Sorry, but how many coins do you submit? Hard to have a problem when you submit 5 coins a year.

Don't take this the wrong way, but you're a PCGS apologizer. Nothing wrong with that. You're also going to be a PCGS intern soon. Hardly an objective eye.

When? After posting the submission with the MS-62 & 63 Franklins we haven't seen anything since. Except for the '62 PR-64 DCAM Franklin you sent on Russ' submission.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of those monster FBL's you say you've been picking up at different shops. Please let us see a new submission # and your expected grades. Maybe even some super pictures?! image

I'm not sending anything to PCGS as economy. All my <$300 coins have been going to NGC. I will still use PCGS for coins over $300. My beef with PCGS is their current listed 50 day turnaround time. NGC's is 21 business days. That is just not acceptable when you are having them graded to sell. Now, if PCGS goes back to the kind of service they had last year (check out #3043402) then I will switch back to PCGS for all my coins. Right now I have twenty at PCGS (#9003437) and no telling when these will be graded.

Well The Hep Kitty and Ursa Bear and Bear are staying with PCGS. I have even purchased some neat

enjoy your coins, enjoy the comradship and lets all lighten up a bit. With a war looming over the

much bigger things to be concerned about . This topic has been the flavor of the week and now ,

perhaps its time to get back to some plain vanilla ice cream flavor. Bear

I wasn't trying to start anything. Sorry you took it that way. I was just hoping to see some of your results. Sorry you think I was "intruding" on some secret! Ex-cuuuuuuse me. I'll not ask again. Seems it is a sensitive area for you.

  • I'll still be sending coins to both services. It's only good business.
And, when PCGS get a couple of kinks worked out, they will probably be getting half of my biz again.

    Hope it's soon!

Yeah PCGS does sound kinda bogus. Maybe I'll take my business to NGC too. I have a question first though. Who owns Certified Collectibles Group which owns NGC & NCS? I like to know who I'm dealing with.

Go ahead and send your coins to NGC but if you try to use thier Message Boards you have about a 27% chance of getting into them. Something like thier Cross Over rate here at PCGS. image

    DHeath,

Actually No. But based on all the horrible things told about PCGS on these board ("They destroyed the guy..."), etc. and everyone saying how they will simply go to NGC to get the grades they need, it doesn't seem like it would be much of a challenge. Plus, I am saying that if I wanted to, I could crack the coin out. That way NGC wouldn't know it was a PCGS coin. The truth is that I am collecting my Peace $ Reg. set for now, and have no plans to sell, so upgrading them to get some money isn't really what I'm looking to do right now. Maybe in the future. I can tell you for example that most of my MS65 PCGS Peace $s are virtually perfect with almost completely unmarked fronts, and very strong and nice back sides as well. I wouldn't doubt for a second that some and maybe quite a few could upgrade to 66 through just about anyone other then PCGS.

    JJacks,

Are you absolutely, beyond any shadow of a doubt, positively sure, based on your own evaluation of your coin's grades that they do not merit a higher grade? Or is it simply because PCGS told you so?

The best deals I've ever made buying coins were buying undergraded PCGS coins at the price the number on the slab dictated knowing that these coins were actually one to two grades higher. Good for me, bad for the dealer.

Andy, I beleive some of what I have bought is slider to the next grade. Like I said, I have a number of MS65 Peace $s (maybe 7-8) of slightly better dates, maybe many are MS65.75 or something. I don't doubt that PCGS maybe would upgrade 1 or 2, but I bet others would upgrade maybe 3 or 5. I have gone to shows, and only bought the best looking ones I could find, even though you put yourself in a position of having to pay the dealers price then. I agree, you can get some great coins in PCGS holder that the dealers have simply given up on resubmitting, or it isn't worth enough for them to bother.
