Anyone slab a coin only to crack it out when you get it back

I did once with a 1926-S buffalo nickel. I mean sort of trusted the dealer but
in my case I wanted to verify grade, authenticity, so I could sleep at night.
When I got it back from PCGS I cracked it out and put it back in the book.
I think I spent the 30 bucks wisely.

  • WELL WELL WELL

Your case is a pretty rare one.

But in my opinion I wouldn't crack it out.........I Am not going to waste my money.

BUt believe me That a have a lot of desire to crack out some slabed coins of mine.......speccially a 1942 AU 55 LIBERTY WALKING.

I don't know why but sometimes people feel like........this is a desire and they have to do it, pretty rare but it is.
  • Happens all the time. Most people don't think it is a good use of $30 though. Next time take it for a free verbal opion at the shows. PCGS has David Hall give free opinions and ANACS does it for free each day at the major shows.

  • I'll be cracking out a coin I sent in as soon as I get it back...I don't agree with the grade at all.
  • It hasn't happened to me ( because my few NGC/PCGS submissions to date have all been bagged) ...but if I got a slabbed coin back and the grade pi$$ed me of to the point that I couldn't stand to look at it in the slab, then I would most certainly crack it out and put it in an airtite.
  • Bust coinage collectors do that often.
    Got Morgan?

I've cracked out quite a few when I got them back; then resubmitted them to get the grade they should have gotten the first time around.

I once cracked a 61DMPL Morgan out thinking it was a 62 or 63. It came back an AU58image I re-cracked it and put it in my dansco albumimage

I've sent a few coins to ANACS as fillers for one of their specials. Never really wanted it slabbed in the first place, but it was cheaper to send 10 than 9. So got it back, cracked it out.

every 1! i've sent a few to anacs either for auth. or attrib. verification. as soon as it comes back, i can't get it out of the plastic fast enough. just got 4 back last month. honestly, i really hardly look at their grade. my primary concern is auth. & attrib's.
