For those who don't know, I took a few coins to FUN that I really like but thought they might not get slabbed because of the question of how they got their color. Mark nicely gave me his opinion that they were most likely AT or not market acceptable. I also asked him to look at some slabbed coins and he and one of his counterparts at his company agreed they were not AT. In fact one of them I purchased from him. Just wanted to see if he was really paying attention. The criticism came with an explanation of why they thought they were AT. To me it was just another learning experience. Now whether or not he thought I was a dipwad for buying them in the first place is another question.image

  • One can be honest without being an a$$hole or condescending schmuck about it...I think most people would like and respect that.
  • I believe very much in the art of good communication. People post pictures of coins on this forum for different reasons. Sometimes to ask questions, sometimes to get unvarnished opinions, and sometimes just to show them off out of pride of ownership. Sometimes people also put up certain coins to illustrate a point and to educate.

I think (in a perfect world) people should be a little sensitive to actual intent of the poster. This involves a little thought, and sometimes more than a little restraint. I believe there is a way to get almost any point across that you might want to make, without being insulting, without making it personal, and without totally smashing someones self esteem.

Every single member of this forum has a basic need for acknowledgement of some kind. I have always been amazed how sometimes you can defuse the most tense situation around here with just a few well chosen words to a member when a situation may be heading down hill.

Oh, what was the question? Do I really want to know...? Well, here is an example, I started a thread today showing a nicely toned coin. Now a lot of people wouldn't like that toning. Would I have wanted every toning-hater on the forum to weigh in and tell me it's ugly? No. Would they have the right? Yes. Would it bother me? Why now that depends on how they went about it.

    Well said Clankeye.

I have an opinion on almost everything. I've found it's often best to keep it to
myself even if it's based on facts, logic, and is part of a coherent system. When
it's just a feeling and it's negative, I'll always try to keep it to myself.

I don't get it....it's pretty obvious to me when someone wants a brutal, honest opinion....it's also obvious when someone just wants to share something interesting......I think Clankeye said it best. Maybe that's why we all enjoy his stories.
