I included this as part of my mother's eulogy. It is one of the most beautiful and reassuring passages I ever have read about death. I hope it is of comfort to coinut's friends and family and anyone faced with the passing of a loved one. The author is Rosamunde Pilcher:

Death is nothing at all. It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened.
Everything remains exactly as it was.
I am I, you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference in your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without an effort, without a ghost of a shadow upon it.
Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity.
What is this death but a negligible accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner.
    All is well ...
  • I knew him only from the boards, but it was pretty clear he was one of the good guys. Sad news. image

Richard was one of my first contacts on these boards when I won one of his giveaways. In our handful of subsequent dealings his sense of humor was always a pleasure. We shared with each other San Diego roots and his family was always the topic.

Definitely a fine gentleman who will be missed. I will think of him every time I use the Breen Encyclopedia I got from him. He was a class act.

(Word of this just reached me over on the Darkside- I haven't been on as much lately, and hadn't heard.)
