Fairtraderzz, Gary, you must feel a LOT better now. It would seem you have been repressing that bit of anger. You are so right in what you said! That seller writes too much. That seller writes too little. Did you see how much that seller wants for shipping? That seller's scans are too little. That seller's scans are too big. That seller has 102 negative feedback (Oh, I forgot to mention he has over 27,000 positive feedbacks.. ) Look, that's not really a PR-70 DCAM. It's been 5 days and I don't have my coin! NGC was wrong! Seems it just never ends. Water off of the duck's back, there ol' buddy. It's just water off of the duck's back.
Truth you relize that you r killing your already not so great rep. accusing people of being nazis, saying you only respect people that spell well. You look like a total moron.
I won't get into the bash this or bash that fad that seems to pervade this message board of late. I will, however, share my approach to this hobby and how I've by and large been able to avoid the headaches discussed in this thread.
A while ago, I mentioned that I'm the kind of person who doesn't really like to meet new dealers. It's not because I'm shy or because I think they're generally scumbags. Rather, I know that they each have their own way of doing business, and I have my way. And, I recognize that sometimes our personalities won't mesh well together.
It took me some time to develop a rapport with a core group of dealers with whom I'll chat, do business and generally socialize. From this core group, they'll get to know me -- and my quirks -- and I'll get to know them. I'll slowly expand the group of dealers by recommendation from the ones I already know and trust. I'll approach a new, recommended dealer first by introducing myself and saying that so-and-so recommended them to me. That usually breaks the ice. It also helps keep each of us civil, because neither one of us want to embarrass the dealer who brought us together.
I also don't generally do business with a new dealer for the first time except on a face-to-face basis. The last dealer I did new business with via an electronic medium was Legend. I intro'ed myself over the phone, and she said that she already knew me.
Another approach I use regularly when considering a new dealer is to check out that dealer. I will walk up to their booth and see how they conduct themselves. I will monitor how they conduct themselves here (I don't go by hearsay). If I get a certain comfort level after scoping them out from afar, then I'll make the jump if they have a coin that interests me.
I did the jump with Legend because Laura's approach is quite direct and no-nonsense. I like that. That suggests that she'll be straight with me, as long as I'm straight with her.
Pinnacle once had a coin that interested me. I didn't know them, so I didn't bother to contact them. I feel that I now know Mark Feld, and would not hesitate to call him about a coin that caught my eye.
There are many dealers with whom I would not lightly enter into a retail business transaction. It's not because they're scumbags. It's simply because I don't know them well enough to want to hand them my money! There are also many dealers with whom I would happily be a client, if only the timing were right (i.e., if their inventory were of interest to me).
Why must everybody fight on fridays? Every friday is the same. I have bought from many dealers and collectors on this forum and have only good things to say. My recent coin in my sig was bought from Darrin (BigD5) and another of my more recent coins was bought from aethelredii and it was also very nice. Lots of great dealers here!
-Jarrett Roberts
P.S. - I have never bought from fairtraderz on ebay, but I see their auctions now and then and have heard many good things about them.
Obviously, your still wet behind the ears. I've been on this forum for three years and have seen it go from a truly informative forum only to degenerate into the friday night fights. You need to grow up and become respectful, and responsible, not some snotty kid who throws out one line zingers. Only then will coin collecting become a sincere hobby.
TRUTH had every right to post a thread earmarked for the dealers on this board and expect the discussion to be targeted to dealers. Consider the consequences if a collector had labeled a thread here directed at fellow collectors and a group of dealers started attacking that collector on the thread
And, why shouldn't there be a thread here every now and then which reveals the "bad side" of collectors out there? Can't collectors learn, just as the dealers acknowledge they try to learn from collectors? Let's face it - the threads on this board attacking dealers are around 50x more prevalent than threads attacking collectors. If dealers can take it, day in and day out - why is a rare thread like this not simply viewed as "comic relief" by the (primarily dominant) collectors of this board.
At the risk of losing a few customers (which always seem to happen when someone posts a reply like this), I suggest everyone "chill out" and enjoy this thread in the spirit it was intended - to better assist collectors and dealers to coexist with each other.
Come on "collectors" - confess that every now and then you can be a royal "pain in the butt" to your favorite dealers As Fairtraders said, we really are "good friends" Wondercoin
Please visit my website at www.wondercoins.com and my ebay auctions under my user name www.wondercoin.com.
A true American would not ask or tell someone to leave the country just because they do not agree. If fact, that's more in line with fascism and dictatorships. A true American would get into a give and take conversation, dialogue. A true American would enjoy the challenge of a good discussion. Sorry Rony, you're no American, but you can still stay.
And interestingly, as many collectors have the high opinion of "Well, the Dealers need us. Without us, they'de be unemployed", consider we need the Dealers too. Dealers to not just sell us coins but to continue to stroke our egos and feed our craving to be loved.
Boy, should they stop doing so for even a second- the' loyalty' is out the window and a new "best friend/Dealer" is made.
(Or, the collector simply finds the coin he's looking for at a 5% discount and abandons his 'favorite' Dealer in a New York second.)
Mitch: True, except it is Friday nite and a disagreement was already in another thread. To expect it not to follow to a separate thread on this hallowed eve is simply asking too much!
Sorry to say, there are Nazis and unAmericans all around us. When they show up on the forum, you call them what they are. I never tell anyone to leave the country. If you have an opinion, state it, say it, don't demean the speaker, unless you're insulted. Best you reread the threads, since you cannot differentiate between good dialogue and obnoxious comments.
TT..... I started by saying you sucked based on your statements. Then, I was a cajoled American regarding certain current events. Then my education, and my pecker.
All I did was point out the evident fact that you're dumb ass.

Bear, I am soooooo injured by your opinion. I take your statement as a badge of honor. I'll wear it proudly. If the sun doesn't rise tomorrow, YOU are allowed to blame me.

There is alot of wisdom in you post! But I did not post to this thread to feel better. I read all posts to learn from them in what you collector's want to see in a coin dealer. To be the best coin dealer we can be, we dealers need to listen to the buyer's and learn from them. In our company we find what the probelm is, find out how the problems happen, and fix it so it does not occour again..
Fairtradderz sold me a 49sms66fbl that was purchased by another party for me, the coin arrived as described and safe and sound. I have atleast 5 Franklins from them...... (I hate to tell anyone, its a good secret), but I have been happy with every purchase..... Be Bop A Lula!

I love that "ugly thread" banner - where did THAT come from?? It's a classic.
"My friends who see my collection sometimes ask what something costs. I tell them and they are in awe at my stupidity." (Baccaruda, 12/03).I find it hard to believe that he (Trump) rushed to some hotel to meet girls of loose morals, although ours are undoubtedly the best in the world. (Putin 1/17) Gone but not forgotten. IGWT, Speedy, Bear, BigE, HokieFore, John Burns, Russ, TahoeDale, Dahlonega, Astrorat, Stewart Blay, Oldhoopster, Broadstruck, Ricko, Big Moose.
I probably shouldn't reply to this thread, however, I would like to point out that truthteller's initial post in the thread specifically refered to
<< <i>Whiney retail buyers who use this forum to bash dealers for stupid, petty reasons SUCK BIG TIME! >>
and not to all collectors. I mention this because it seems that some/several people have read his initial post to mean all collectors and have gotten suitably aggitated by it.
I'd also like to defend truthteller in another manner here in regards to the ongoing battle with KK and kaliedescope in that truthteller has a long history on these Boards of being one of the few people who has typically razor sharp insight into the hobby/industry and who normally shares this insight with grace and generosity as well as with a good sense of humor. I write this because it is apparent to me that neither of you are all that familiar with him. Therefore, regardless of whether you agree or are offended by this exchange I will say that truthteller has been an enormous value to this Board throughout its lifespan.
I wasn't going to respond eiether, I'm a dealer AND a collector so I'm not sure if I qualify to post.
However, my biggest peeve is people giving me want lists, and when I email letting them know that I have one of the items they were looking for I get no response. It's cool if they got one already, and it's OK if they have a reason for not wanting the one I offered, but the courtesy of a response would be great considering I was working hard to remember their needs per their request.
Some people bring out the worst in others, then they complain that too many people are cry babies! Why is it they get a disproportionate amount of whiners?
You can fool man but you can't fool God! He knows why you do what you do!
As a dealer that takes in want list's also. We must remember the buyer is as busy as us. There are many times that a coin has came in that is in a want list that I forgot to call a customer about. They always forgive us, and we will always forgive them if they don't have the time in a day to call or email us. To be honest I don't even expect them to call us over this.
Nasty thread. Is Park Ave in this one somewhere? Has every person who ever bought a coin been ripped off?
