POLL: Are you a PCGS Collector's Club Member

nwcsnwcs Posts: 13,386 ✭✭✭
Was curious as to how many people here are actually collectors who joined up for submissions. I've been pondering about when mine runs out in April what I will do. I've ordered some CoinWorld slabs and think I may just do a NGS (Neil's Grading Service) slab for myself and save the submission fees forever. Especially good for after I take the grading class in March.

Anyway, are you a current member?

I'm just a sivler member so I said no. but if and when I send in more than one coin I'll go with the gold. right now my dealer submits a coin or 2 a year for me. I buy the rest already in pcgs slabs. most of my submittions go to IGC. they are just state quarter. IGC is cheap and have a cool slab. I like the finger notch holds on the side of them.

Yes and, no, I wouldn't do it again.

I am currently and I might renew when it expires. I wouldn't be in any rush.

I dislike having to pay money for the privilege of submitting coins at the same price that I could get from any PCGS dealer. However, the "free" grading help offset this slap in the face. If so many PCGS dealers weren't total pieces of crap that I can't trust, then I would submit thru them.

The way NGC is going (and have you seen the price increased they are getting for moderns), the lure of PCGS is fading.

Gold member - you have to be at least gold to have access to the full range of service levels on submissions. You can't even get reholder service at silver level, so they've got me hooked.

If you mean gold member, no. If you mean silver member yes. I have not, and have no plans to, submit coins on my own. I let me dealer do it as it is cheaper than even the gold member rates. Not sure there is any bonus to joining above getting the pop reports. From what I have heard even the free gradings, once shipping is paid, is not that great of deal.

That would be great IF I had a local dealer.

There is no need to be a Collector's Club member in order to submit coins to PCGS on your own. Simply use the ebay form to submit coins. Here is the link. I think if you are a registered ebay member you automatically qualify. It is how I submit all my coins to PCGS and is totally free outside of the regular PCGS submission rate. One warning, however, they apparently have never taught anyone at PCGS how to accept these forms so I always get PCGS employees looking at me like they have never seen them when I submit at shows and if I send the coins in through the mail I always have to call PCGS to make certain that they know what to do with them. If I don't call then the coins can sometimes just sit for weeks because no one knows how to process them and no one has the common sense to find out how or to call me.

Nahh, I wanted the poll to mention collector's club for a reason.
  • Sounds like the savings of having to wait for a few weeks before they even go into the system are worth it.imageimage You really have to call each time and baby your coins in?

    No.
I own a number of PCGS slabs, but have only submitted to ANACS myself. I don't like PCGS's policy of body bag-keep the full fee. Part of the fee is for the grader's expertise, the other part is for the slab. If I don't get a slab, I expect a partial credit. With ANACS, unless the coin is a counterfeit, I get a slab, with problems noted, if necessary.
  • Yes, I am a member and will probably renew. I submit most of my coins to NGC because I can submit online, and get a 10% discount for doing so.

I am a Platinum member, and I will definitely renew my subscription. It was well worth joining just to be able to submit on my own. Plus it forced me to learn to grade better. mdwoods

Yes, I just signed up in November. Have made several submissions since then and will make quite a few more before it expires in November of this year. I use it mostly to get an idea of how close my grading skills are. It's also kind of habit forming too. Like waiting or Christmas everytime I have a package in to be graded.
