Boeing moved their headquarters to Chicago, as I recall, but they still make the planes in Washington.

    Dorkarl,

Yes, Boeing headquarters moved to Chicago, with about 500 employees, but they left 60,000 workers back in Seattle to assemble the commercial airplanes, at least for now.

    Correction time:

In Everett, WA, the largest building in the world is used as the assembly line for the 747, 767, and 777 widebody jets.
In Renton, WA, most of Boeing's narrowbody planes, the 737 and 757 are assembled.
In Long Beach, CA, the 717 is assembled.

They cancelled the show, so nobody should waste any time coming to Kent trying to cherry-pick good stuff.

Boeing has been hit very hard with the aftermath of 9/11, with reduced demand for commercial aircraft. Washington State Boeing employment was over 100,000 in the late 90's, this has always been a cyclical industry. I am not familiar with the St. Louis operations, after the merger with McDonnell-Douglas, Boeing has become a global enterprise.

Interesting fact: The Boeing Employees' Coin Club has 152 members, with 90 of them retirees.

BECC also mints a 1.5 ounce medal annually, depicting their aircraft in silver, pewter, and bronze, usually with a mintage of around 1000 for silver.

That's funny Russ....... I heard a group of coin collectors saying "Kent???? Why there ain't nuthin' in Kent but rednecks, hicks, cows, and the Compucheap Hoard of '64 Kennedys! Why the hell they havin' a show in Kent?" imageimage

Interesting fact: The Boeing Employees' Coin Club has 152 members, with 90 of them retirees.

That's because the 90 retirees are the only ones left who have enough money around to purchase coins! image Did I mention I'm one of the 30,000+ who (hey Lucy!!) got the pink slip Daddy! I still haven't figured out if I want to be relieved or disgruntled........ hmmmm....... Oh yeah....... I was planning on going and it should be a great show......... as long as Uncle Phil and Uncle Al don't show up! imageimageimageimageimage

Hey Thanks for the reminder. I will venture up almost for sure.

This is usually one of the better shows that we have here in Washington and Oregon. If you see a guy talking BS about Mercs with a dealer say hello. It could be me. Steve Jones, Art Lowery and Jim Hart are the most likely canidates to receive my ration of BS. Rick Hennesy also if he is there.

Ok, is this show on or off. I'm so confused. I have a fear of going to Kent for any reason other than a coin show.

  • My brother asked me about some coins the other day that I have never heard about but there is a market for them somewhere.

Boeing made some gold coins awhile back that they offered to employees, I think. I am trying to find out more about these and the Boeing Employees'Coin Club is about as close to what I need as I have found yet!

OK - no more rumors about the Boeing show being cancelled and Kent bashing. Those cherry-pickers will try anything to get an advantage! There is nothing wrong with Kent, as long as you are just visiting. Where else can you find free parking, free admission, and most of all - free wooden nickels?

There will be more competitive displays this year, BECC has been encouraging them, and the 70+ tables that have been sold is more than last year.

The BECC did mint gold Boeing medals in some years from 1966 to 1985, with mintage ranging from 2 to 66. These are 1.5 ounce medals, occasionally they are auctioned at club meetings. A dealer who sells Boeing medals is Jim Payne P.O. Box 46374 Seattle, WA 98146 (no e-mail). For 2003, the KC-135 Stratotanker is featured on the medal.

I will be at the show on Sunday with my nine year old daughter, I should be hanging out with Mark Entman of B.U.S.T. Coinage at around 1:00.

I have no information that the show is cancelled. Purely jest.

Well, had a good time at the show this AM. Met Clankeye and his wife, Russ and DanC (who looks nothing like Saddam). Russ had some good photo tips for proofs and tried to teach me what a real cameo proof Kennedy looks like. Saw a friend from work too - didn't buy anything....all spent out after the FUN show.

  • Back from the show (and a cat show, too. What a day!). As Lakesammam noted, my wife and I met him. Seems like a fine gentleman. Saw DanC and Russ. Russ looked focused on "the hunt" so I just waved. Not much there to tempt me. Joe Weber always has a table of nice commemorative material. Made one purchase. A 51 Booker T with interesting toning, PCGS64. A coin so cheap, that even if the market totally crashed and burned, using it in change I wouldn't feel like I took a bath. Quick pic....
