C U Name Tags-Reply here to get one from BJ

Spinnaker2000 posted this idea last night, which I had also been thinking along the same lines lately. Do any other forum members think it is a good idea ? If so please e-mail BJ.

BJ would like to hear what you prefer//A CU pin or a temporary name tag with your name or 'handle'. You can email BJ at ; bj@collectors.com

Thread Title: identifying CU members at shows

Would it be possible for CU to make available an "official" CU name tag or the like, for members to identify each other at coin shows? Whether it was a blank that could be printed off the computer or something sent out by mail, I think the members would enjoy being able to spot forum friends amongst other collectors. (And no charge for the advertising space. image

Terry...

We'd be willing to do this if Forum members want it. If enough of you email BJ and request this, we'll do it!

I'm neutral. I think it's a neat idea, but people like me don't go around the country for shows and I may only go to 1 outside of Knoxville per year. And this year's one is the ANA money show in Charlotte. Taking the grading class and going to the show. Only one I'll do this year. I only know of one other board member who is in this area. Although there are a couple in East TN I've heard from.

I like the idea. It would be a persons perogative as to whether they choose to wear it, or even get one. I go to about 4 shows a year now, and I often wonder if any of the people I see are members of the forum. mdwoods

I have only been to one major show; the last ANA in New York. The only forum member I met was Sunnywood, who I had a long conversation with on Shield nickels. I learned quite a bit from Sunnywood, as he has, I believe, the most complete set of proof and MS shield nickels. We discussed the list of dealers we bought from, which turned out to be almost identical. The main reason I attended a major show was to finally place a face with all of the dealers I have been talking to on the phone. The only other forum member I met, but is also a dealer, was Mark Feld. Since most of my business has been with Pinnacle, that was one of the highlights of my trip. Dealers, of course, are easy to locate at a coin show, but as I was wandering around the bourse for three days, I wondered if any of the people there were forum members. The ANA required, all visitors to the show, to wear a name tag. I think it would be a good idea, for all who want to participate, to wear a tag with their forum handle name, unless it is Lucy, who we would recognize immediately.
I am pretty sure I will attend the next ANA in Baltimore this year and hope to meet more forum members. Bear, if you come, please wear clothes. ZERBE

How about a hat with a light on top. It would be easy to see through the crowds at the bigger shows.

I think it would be cool- even for local shows if we don't know who's going, we can still see them... maybe a spot for the ID, real name, and possibly hometown.

Seriously I think a baseball type hat with a CU forum logo on it would stand out much easier than a nametag.

Neat idea. A cool hat is the way to go, imho.

I like the baseball cap idea. Depending on your handle, you may not want something like "nucklehead" on your name tag, but a distinctive cap would give you the chance to walk up to similarly topped members and introduce yourself. Great advertising for CU.

  • Im in, if Laura wears the poodle skirt
  • How about a simple pin-on CU insignia, provided free of course by CU. Great advertising and then you could just walk up and introduce yourself to a fellow CU forum member.

I like it! Cool idea! Then a nametag with the UserID so we know who it is once we find them image

  • I've put 'nucklehead' on a few name tags, got some good laughs out of it. Now I just write 'nucks' my NGC handle so to speak.Quite a few local board members know me by now so I don't write it anymore.Btw I like the cap idea also.image

  • I still like a metal pin-on, with the Cu logo on it. Some people might not want to wear a hat. It would be fun guessing who the person is. In other words, you would be trying to match the person to his or her's handle. But if most people like the hat idea, I'm for that too

I put my nick on my badge at FUN and several people introduced themselves to me. I was curious why they hadn't. A couple of dealers made comments too, not too flattering I might say about the forum. To be fair one of the comments came from a dealer's wife and not sure if she was kidding or not. I hadn't even commented on the thread about them. BTW, its a well known copper dealer and I will tell you he sells high end coins and they were very nice.

So fair warining, if you run around with your nick on, you might hear some surprising comments from the guy you are sitting across from trying to snooker a good deal.image

I think it would be kind of fun to go around with my User ID on a tag. I'm sure there are a lot of dealers that I've pointed out as scumbags that would like to meet me. image

I like the idea. It was hard for me to find anyone at the FUN show.

People can already see me through the crowds without a light hat! image Just ask Merz2, Sadysta, and the rest of the "Baltimore Gang".

The name tags do sound like a good idea.

  • Count me in on the tag or cap but the poodle skirt is out of the question! Sorry Lucy but no one could compete with the real HepKitty!

I think it works. I'm sure I walked by tons of members @ FUN. I did see & talk to Keifer, but only knew him cause I remembered him from the Atlanta ANA 2 years ago when he was the ANA intern and I was taking their 3 day coin grading class.

I think a badge or pin would be a great idea. A hat might be a little too bold. But if everyone is serious about hats, I own a contract embroidery plant and could make them available at cost. CU logo on front with handle on back would probably run about $8 if I could run them in quantity.

edited to add: I would need CU's written permission to use their logo.

I think this is a great idea! I'm leaning towards a CUI pin of some sort, but if you all think it would be more fun to have temporary-type name badges with your handle, we can do that as well.

If you are planning to attend the Long Beach Show, why don't you respond to this post and let me know you will be there and what kind of identification you would prefer. I will plan to have the badge or pin waiting for you at the PCGS booth.
