What was you wifes/husbands reaction to your 1st $1,000, $5,000, $10,000 coin?

Come on, i know there's a few of us out there that can spend that kind of money on a coin. What was your wife's/husband's reaction? I would like to think mine (when i can afford it) will be loving and understanding, but for some reason, i don't think she will.
What's your story? Trust me, i'll post mine when it happens.

OK, the truth is I research a $4500 coin to death and discussed it with my wife thoroughly before buying it from a local dealer.
About 2 months later a much better one appeared on the market, so I tried to sell the first one and actually sold it to Bowers and Merena for $5000 - which is even more unbelievable than the first part of this post when you think about it. But its true. 100% true.

my wife's response is consistent but now is followed by " You promised , you would never do this again"
Looking for PCGS AU58 Washington's, 32-63.
Exactly!
Cameron, I know you are young but trust me on this one, you don't need to discuss everything with your spouse and you will discover the reasons someday.
Besides, it is an investment - not a hobby. Would she complain if you bought $1,000 worth of stocks or bonds? Then why should she complain about $1,000 worth of coins.

I assume she doesn't know about your real icon either.....
Actually, I was too conservative when starting out and am still kicking myself. There were some great deals then (in retrospect). I took my wife to Eagle Eye once and bought a great 1869 IHC MS65R - she was really shocked at the price but has tolerated my coin "investments" since - "It's important to diversify, honey......"

I hate it when you see my post before I can edit the spelling.
Always looking for nice type coins
my local dealer
True, the coin purchases might be worth less in the future. Same with other investments. However, a nice diversified portfolio will help. With shoes and purses the odds are so microscopic that they will be of the same or higher value in the future, that it is basically not an option.
2 more days til I can change my icon to show my favorite coin

A month later at a coin show a dealer pulled her aside and told her if anything ever happened to me he wanted to buy that note, I had won in Memphis. She hasn't said another word about what I spend on a coin or a note.
Looking for Nationals, Large VF to AU type, 1928 Gold, and WWII Emergency notes. Also a few nice Buffalo Nickels and Morgan Dollars.

She keeps asking what this board is all about; I think she suspects that the money is going to more intimate things than slabbs.

The next year, on the day of my wife's birthday a few hours before taking her out to dinner, I realized I had no money to buy my wife a nice present. Well the rest is history, quick thinking on my part.....she was born in 1955. So I quickly dug it out of the bank vault and tried to con her into thinking it was her 43rd birthday present.
She crossed her eyes when she saw the present and not just from the doubling.
Now, I can't even sell it even if I wanted to. She is making me pay dearly for that horrific act.
i can't wait to go home and show her this thread!!!
"see, honey, everyone else is doing it. . . . ."
it ought to be fun!!!
