The "OFFICIAL" FUN show thread

This worked fairly well last time with the Long Beach show. Instead of having a few dozen different posts about the show and places to meet up we combined it in one thread. I know alot of people may not post until Tue/Wed, but I wanted to start a thread before I leave (Sunday the 5th). Tommorrow I am busy and probably won't get much of a chance to post here on the boards. A few topics for discussion:

1. Who will be there?

2. What table #'s if you are a dealer?

3. Anyone planning a get together?

4. Anyone going to the Set Registry reception?

One thread on the topic

I will be there the whole time and look like this (the guy on the right) Stop me and say hi:

  • I thought Tuesday was leavng early. Why are you going on Sunday Cameron?

  • Why not? I am staying with a dealer friend (Don Bonser). Starting Sunday night, we are going to hotel rooms and coin shops and I get to see the dealers do business. Pre show business.

You can't be older than me-- I'm 127!

I wish I could go to the FUN Show to bid on a number of lots at Hertiage's Signature Sale, but, alas, I have to stay on the Left Coast. I'd also like to go to New York for the Belzberg Auction, but that ain't gonna happen, either. image

  • I'm not going to FUN image but I will be watching the auctions I cant afford go higher up in price, and then will lay myself and my shattered dreams to rest.
    image
  • I will be there for the whole parade (all the auctions) and the show. I'll be at table 809/811.

WARNING! By Thursday due to the lack of sleep I expect not to get (my schedule due to the auctions is to work from 6 AM until 1-2 AM), so I'll probably be cranky! I beg for forgiveness in advance!

He and I (with our wives) will be at the Registry Set reception Fri. night, too.

I'm REALLY looking forward to meeting a lot of you in person, even the cranky Laura! image

    Laura,

I'll stop by with my new digital camera early in the show and late in the show to take ``before'' and ``after'' pictures of you to post on the web for all to see! (That is, of course, if I am allowed to take the pictures!)

One day I,ll make a special trip out just to see one of these FUN shows. They seem to be a frequent affair fortunatly.
And a hugely popular affair.Would everyone say that the Fun show is THE show and the biggest coin show in the country,if not the world.
How often is the FUNshow, and is it the biggest.Which are the biggest in your opinion.
    Thanks.
BTW Someone take alot of pictures to show us shut-ins.
Do they allow pictures on the bourse floor? That would be cool.

FUN show only happens once a year, in January, and is put on by the Florida United Numismatists. I think it is the second largest show in the counrty. image

I'm not sure what day or time I'll be there, but since I live in Orlando, it would be pretty lame of me not to go to one of the biggest shows in the country, right? image

  • Okay, okay, at least I can admit I can't deal with the stresses of a major show! I have a feeling that by Tuesday night (after the Bowers Sale) my hair will already be standing up.

What you all don't know is there are at least THREE mini pre shows. Come Monday many major dealers will already be down in FL and will have taken out private conference rooms to hold mini bourses. Its such a strain and pain to run to each of these and then do the auctions. Its really a non stop grueling trip for us.

I'm glad to see you all don't expect me to be a sweetie come Fridayimageimageimageimage! Guess my early plead for sympathy won't work on this tough crowd!

We'll be at table #'s 524/526. I'll be present Wed. until Saturday afternoon. And, from what I've heard, odds are, I'll be in a better mood than Laura. image

I'd like to publicly thank Cameron for providing me with OUR table numbers, after I had sent them to him and later deleted the message containing that vital information. image
  • I'd like to hire some .. uh.. "muscle" from one of you getting to attend in person. You see someone bidding on my heritage item on the floor, work some magic. image Hope you all have a good time and show us some nice finds when you get back.

PS if you ever need "muscle" in Indiana, we can work something out. image

    Got Morgan?

Will be leaving today to do some auction viewings. Will put in token appearances at work Mon. & Tue. before rolling to Orlando to see the big hitters part with some money at the auctions. Will be there full time from Wed. - Sun. Hope to make the registry reception (or at least part of it) if Heritage can keep from selling all the stuff I'm interested in during that evening block. Hope to put a few faces to these thread ID's over the next week.

Unfortunatley being the poor working guy that i am i can't afford to take off from work, hopp a jet to florida, get a hotel room, eat out for evey meal, then hopp a jet home. so i have a challenge to any and all dealers from the fussiest barber collector [not the richest] in the entire collecting world! find me some type barber halves in m.s. 64 or better with full unbroken luster that jumps off the coin and bites you with origanol color and high end surface quality in p.c.g.s. slabs and don't ask double digit percent above grey sheet for them. Maybe some day all spring for a digital camra and a good p.c. to show you what high end barbers should look like [lol] that was a joke, but i'm seriuos about the barbers. Be my eyes and legs in Florida. So come on guys [oops] and gals, find me what i crave!! Barberlover

  • Meeting times will be 1:00 pm on Friday and Saturday.

We will meet at table 1201, managed by Charlotte Coin Consortium. To get to this table, turn right after entering the bourse, and proceed to the last row of tables. 1201 is the first table in that last row. The concession area is next to this row, so there are places to sit if you get there early.

Dpoole and I are looking forward to meeting all of you!

  • I am already in Florida, arrived Thurs. nite to attend the Clearwater Show. Spending some time in Clearwater visiting my parents. I will be driving to Orlando on Monday to view auction lots and getting ready to work with my Spectrum Numismatics associates to gear up for a very busy 5 days. Stop by our table and say "Hi" or look for me on the bourse floor. I have packed a box of 20 interesting coins of my own, and there are 6 beautifully toned Morgans in the bunch, would love to show them to anyone interested. Look forward to seeing everyone soon! Yes, I'll be there. My former name on this board was heavycopper. I couldn't log in anymore so I am now Merc. It is only a 20 minute drive for me so I'm going. I am presenting my 1st educational exhibit titled Proof Coinage of the 1940's. I will go in Thursday to set up my exhibit. I'll probably go again Saturday for the seminars. Then on Sunday I'll be working at the regrestration desk.

Someone watch for a little loose (slabbed) change on the floor for me! I wish I could go.... it is still tempting to drive that way after work Friday, but it's a long haul Biloxi MS to Orlando... specially when work can end anytime after 6PM.
