Can NCS remove laquer from IKE dollars??

That is my question. Has anyone ever tried? I have a type 2 1972 IKE I want to have slabbed but I wasted a freebie submission hoping to get around it and of course it was bagged for laquer. So, can NCS remove that? Thanks. Richard.

If you decide to send it in, keep us posted with the results.
Also, Greg M. has had much positive experience with NCS and sent an Ike in for me (NGC MS68 1976-S with a fingerprint). They do excellent work!

Pat. There is no way it will hit an MS65 unless they are in a really good mood and feel like giving out gift grades.
Acetone - it will not interact with metals, only plastics.
After the dip, You only need to rinse the coin in cool, clear water after briefly soaking the coin in acetone. Acetone is the same thing as "nail pollish remover". Some people (?) used to put clear nail pollish on new coins to preserve them. I have never tried it, but acetone is the antidone to that.

You are responding to a question from almost 19 years ago.

ya but has rampage been waiting this WHOLE time?
bey bud, you still got the ike?
If only the OP hadn't died while waiting for the answer...
Old threads like this do prod the memory... I wonder how it all worked out?? @Rampage ... If you are still around... How did it work out??? Cheers, RickO
@jmlanzaf I am far from dead. Came close a couple of times in recent years (hence me not posting or visiting until about a month ago).
@LanceNewmanOCC I do not have the coin anymore. I did not wait the entire time. I did it myself with acetone.
@ricko As mentioned, I used the acetone myself. The coin ended up grading at PCGS as MS65. It turned out my own grading skills were not good at the time. They have since improved drastically.
I made one post since returning to the forums a month ago after about a 6- or 7-year hiatus. I am not old (well, not in my mind anyway, 45 years old now), but my emotional health deteriorated almost to the point of no return and I did not realize it was happening until it was almost too late...literally. During that same time period, I let my physical health fall apart, too. I guess that is what happens when you are a single introverted person and you decide to leave family and friends to move 1,200 miles away to a place you do not know, for a job you thought you would love, and then find out gradually over time how much that hurt me. But, I took a risk, and I moved for a new gig. You never know until you try.
Since realizing what had happened and where I almost wound up, I decided to make some life changes, which includes a pending career change and move back to Florida. I unfortunately struggled to meet new people here and find that circle of people that I needed in life. Again, not really realizing it until almost too late.
Ok, anyway, I will leave that alone. Sorry to just throw all that just right there. You all did not ask to hear it, so I am sorry.
PS--I find it somewhat humbling that someone dug up a 19-year old post I made and bumped it.

thanks for the response about the ike!
Thanks for going into that a bit... it is important to have people with whom to share.
Definitely an Open Forum candidate!
@Rampage Sorry to hear that. I will say that you have friends here so don’t be a stranger!

@ThreeCentSilverFL I am not down there yet. I was born and raised in Florida. Moved to the northeast almost 10 years ago. It will be nice to reconnect with some old friends and maybe even start going to the FUN show again.
