Do any of us actually work???

It seems like any time you want to go on the boards, you will see posts from the same people. We either don't work, or have very good jobs where we can be on the computer all day or night. I did include myself in this post . I am lucky or unfortunate that this time of year is slow for me and I have lots of time on my hands, but it averages out the 100 hour weeks in the busy times.imageimage

  • I keep an internet connection open the entire time that I am at work (like now image ), so it is easy to post any time that I want to. As long as I get my work done (and stay off the porn sites), my boss doesn't care!

I use a computer for about 120% of my job. In otherwords, all day long. Not too difficult to get out to the web every now and then.
  • I have a home based consultancy, which gives me a very flexible schedule.

It's nice for a while, but after a few years, you kind of never stop working. I'm considering opening an office outside my home again.

I'm on the computer virtually all day (and part of the night), anyway - this works out fine for me.
  • Ya damnit, I got a job and start my shift in 29 minutes. My day starts when I leave my house and ends when I return...travel time included. You gotta love that deal.
  • The wifey and i own our own business, so it's flexible-- As long as we don't p.o. our clients. I'm on the computer at our office a bit, when i'm here. Otherwise, i'm on the road, which is why i only post (alot) two days a week.

I'm a computer programmer so I'm always near a computer with a fast linkup. And I'm a very fast typist. So I will pop in for a minute and then type a message or two and then keep working. Right now I'm working on developing a class structure to manage an assessment (test, display, response, feedback) according to the QTI XML specification. It's uses visitor, composition, and strategy patterns in its design. In between compiles or when I'm thinking about an issue, I'll head on for a minute for a change of pace. When I don't post much during the day, it means i'm really focusing on an issue or in the code zone.

Stewart, I've given serious thought to stopping after post # 999 (this one). What do you think? Just so you know, I don't promise to take your advice. image

Every other evening at work I sit and do literally nothing....then every other night I am slammed with work. It's sort of a pair of people and we switch off the hard job every other day. When I'm doing the easy part, I spend all evening posting on boards, etc. Nice job, considering the pay is good, the benefits are decent, and we have a web server sitting ten feet from us!

I may receive some flack for this, but my wife works while I sit at home. Pretty rough, I know.

At least it allows me to sit and surf the internet all day long for coins. Gotta love those cable modems.image

On top of all that, working in Television Production the past 8 years, all I do is chat on AIM, jump on the boards, ebay, and the occasional porn...lol... image As long as I get my work done also whenever I can, it doesn't matter. And when I don't even feel like doing work, I just close my office door. Hehe And it also helps being the boss too. image

Do I work? How else do I pay for these pieces of plastic entombing undergraded coins? Let's see ... I only worked 44 hours this week and that was with Monday off! Check the bylines tomorrow on the front page of The Columbus Dispatch and remember, journalists do it daily! And, by the way, Russ, I am tired of subsidizing your check. Get a job grading AHs at PCGS, at least.

  • Geez, I didn't know there was such a minority of working stiffs, though I have murmured 'these folks have too much spare time' when reading the posts at times!

I know I'm old, but often had to wonder -

How many are in independent living situations with computer access at the residences?

I'm a production manager, and the company I work for doesn't allow the computer for use other than work. So I only post when I am at home (evenings, weekends, and vacations). Only 18 years before I can retire. What a drag.

I work about 70 hours a week as an Air Force member. A typical week has

    M-F 12 hour days
Sat/Sun 4-6 hours one day or the other to "catch up"
Also each average 1-2 mandatory evening events, 2-4 hours each

I do not touch the boards from work

Luckily my last assignment was not this demanding...
