why am I ALWAYS logged in?

Can someone tell me WHY I am always logged in to the forum, no matter how long I have been away from the keyboard and all of my windows are shut?

Some folksmust think I am here 24/7 but really I'm not - it just "looks" that way cause I appently don't get signed out when I leave.

When you log in, there is a check box that says "keep me logged in" It stores a cookie on your machine, so when you open the forums, you are logged in automatically, until the cookie is deleted...

Everytime you come, since you are automatically logged in, you see yourself as logged it... when you aren't browsing the site, you appear logged out image

I suppose it's because you haven't logged out by clicking the "logout" button (upper left).

Many computer users wrongly assume that closing a program automatically logs them out/off. Some programs are designed to log you off when you close your browser, but, the most secure way to break the link is to actually log off yourself, and close your browser.

I am not advocating this as your ONLY security feature, but it is better than not logging off at all AND you may want to familiarize yourself with login/logoff, browser and "cookies" at little more. I would hate to imagine how much extraneous info and particularly, spyware may be on your drive, if you weren't aware of why you were continually logged on.

  • I have had the same happen to me. My pronblem is at school. I log in and the computers crash an hour later. We have to leave and I have to go back to the same computer the next day to log off otherwise I am always logged on. Too much hassle waiting for that "special" computer.
