No where in Ebay's policy does it say how quickly you must send payment. All it says is you must contact each other within so many days. His policy of payment isn't stated,so doesn't exist IMHO.
BTW look at my Ebay auction currently running.I use the same ebay name as my board name (merz2)

  • Maybe my head should be shaking too, but I can't figure out why. Other than being snippy about not stating in his auction that payment after seven days was OK, Kip seems to have handled the rest of the situation really well. Michael on the other hand...Well, let's just say that's my opinion, and you asked for it. image

While I wouldn't have told him he could "kiss my f*#king ass" in the very next email, he sounds like a jerk.

I would not continue with this transaction. Send him an email telling him that you don't feel confortable continuing considering his threats.

Maybe we should all send Kip Meno, N2298 State Hwy 13, Ogema, Wi 54459 a special present. image

See? Not even the Mean and Evil One would have reacted that way.

That seller needs to 1) get a clue, and 2) learn a bit about customer service.

You, Mr. Dixon, need to switch to decaf. image

I guess I'm in the minority, but I think both sides could have handled this much better. I don't think the seller's first reply was stupid - I read it as a diplomatic way to ask for prompt payment, without any insults. I think Michael went way overboard in his second email. But the seller did likewise in the followup by bringing up the commanding officer thing.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

There are some things that are worth getting a neg about, and this is jerk is one of them. I wouldn't pay him one eyeota! I would keep stringing him along with promises to pay though, just to be meaner than he is bwahahaha!image When he negs you just reply with "A seller has to be older than 18 to sell" hehe

You're right that it's no big deal and the guy should have been more than happy to wait a week for a check. That said I don't think you handled yourself very well. The first email you should have told him you made the mistake of not reading his terms and won't have a chance to mail the check. You didn't give him a reason to cut you the slack. In your second email you really jumped down the guys throat. It really wasn't neccessary to cuss at him. I think instead of spending all the time it took to write this thread you should have written the check and given it to someone to mail for you.

I agree with Kranky. Michael, although a week isn't a terribly long delay in getting payment mailed you could have sent him a quick email beforehand telling him about it. At least you would have known BEFORE you bid that the guy was a jerk. Regardless, if a seller sent me a threat, no matter how badly I acted, I would break off the transaction. But be the better man about it and offer to refund his fees (with a one week delay image) and not neg him, as long as he doesn't neg you. You should DEFINITELY apologize for your language.

  • Hey, on a side note... I noticed LM has rejoined the ranks. Amazing how many people are on the forum these days who have left us all goodbye letters. image Well, I never said goodbye... but I will say, "hello." Don't try leaving again... this forum is like the Hotel California.

And Michael, let me fill in my "shake my head in wonder" statement. I was refering to both ends of the transaction. The guy has some gall, but you layed a pretty heavy smack down on him.

Michael, please apologize to the seller and remove his address from your threads. Can't ebay NARU you for this?
  • goose3goose3 Posts: 11,471 ✭✭✭
    MD,
I didn't really think his reply to your email was that bad. Emails sometimes have a way of appearing negative when they possibly are not intended that way.

I was also pretty surprised to see your follow-up. WOW. I think you ticked him off royally and he appears to have remained pretty decent still but tried to get one last dig in on you with the CO comment.

IMO, the man deserves an apology for the language at least.

Good luck. Hope your feedback doesn't get tainted over it.

No. They can't even handle the people on their own website.
  • just mail the frigging check for chrissakes!!! If it was your mortgage or something, you would figure out how to get it in the mail. If you can post on this board, you can email a friend to mail him a check, and get them a check back in a week if you need someone to float you the $35.00. I think you, the buyer were out of line, and he the seller was abrupt.

I never claimed I was leavin' for good. Just a temporary boycott. I needed a break from the incessant bickering and name-calling and couldn't resist a small dramatic flourish upon my departure, heheh. image

And I stayed away at least a week, wasn't it?

Spending time on The Darkside put me back on track. Y'all should try it sometime. The Dark can be quite enlightening, actually... image

I've title picked out, but the guys in the Open Foum kept complaining so much that I hadn't picked my title, that I decided to wait until they either went completely insane or forgot about it. The latter has happened.

I'll likely go with "Slightly Evil" which is also my NGC forum title. image

  • I'm under the impression that parties are supposed to contact each other within three days of the end of the auction and that payment is supposed to be in the hands of the seller within ten days after the close of the auction.

I tried to find more information on EBay and it appears that you are supposed to contact each other within three days but payment due date rules are harder find (I haven't found the rules yet). Best one I found so far says payment should be paid within a reasonable amount of time, another says seven business days.

I can understand both sides of Mr. Dixon's dilemma. Maybe seller needed cash bad and wanted payment as quick as possible, maybe had a bad or long day or just got three bounced checks back in the mail, who knows? I'm sure Michael was ticked off but maybe he over spent last week and needs to float his money a little longer than he'd like (lol, I've done it many times!).

I still don't understand why so many people insist on money orders and cashiers checks when they offer no more protection than a personal check.

I'd offer my commanding officer's email address, I'm just that way, when someone threatens me I take it as a challenge. I think after trhe first email I would probably have said I'll send it right away and then send it when I got around to it.

I'm sorry but this seller is a loser. Check out how he replies to negs thrown at him and see what I mean. That is why I was harsh at the response I would give him. I was looking at a couple of colonials that he has/had up for auction and was thinking of bidding on one but I always sift through a seller's feedback before I bid. When I saw how rude and obnoxious he is at bidders, I thought the better and let his stuff go to someone else, like Dixon. image

you just posted a photo of an AWESOME proof morgan, that i expect set you back slightly more than 35 somolians. thank you for sharing, think it would garner Bear's growl of approval if he was around. you seem intelligent with slightly more than a modicum of good taste.
don't really understand the profane, roadrage-esque response to an arguably untactful request for prompt payment on a 35 dollar item, (coupled with printing his name and address in a public forum.)
life's short folks. i've already wasted far too much of mine on this but here's what i've got to contribute:
apologize for your obscene response, pay the man, enjoy your new coin.

Michael - Your email was a little harsh, but I do agree you've got a BIGTIME LOSER SELLER on your hands. Whatever happened to "the customer is always right...."?

I hit one of these dudes occasionally, but it's pretty rare.

Anyway, tell him to go screw himself....
