We've heard of great finds... but what is your FAVORITE?

My favorite is a T2 1942-P jeff I found... I had no trouble getting any war nickel dates... except for '42- no matter where I went, it eluded me... then... i peered into a cash box and there it was! Had to break a $5 for it... but boy was I happy!

1899 V-nickel was the oldest I ever got in change but I have got several buffalos and mercury's in change when I was working in a small gas station out in the country. I had several old farmers as regular customers at the station and I don't think they really knew what they were spending was worth more than face value. mike image

I have found two IHC's, many wheaties, an AU 1942 mercury dime, a few buffalo nickels, war nickels, various silver dimes, quarters, and halves, one proof 1985 half, and, the most interesting IMHO, a 1996-W dime.

    Hi,

In 1978 (when I was 10) I found a 1909-VDB in circulation in very goodish condition. It was quite a thrill to flip the coin over ens see the initials. Still have it!

  • I found an unstruck dime planchet in change about a year ago. The strange thing about it was that it had considerable wear.

  • When in college I was a graveyard shift cashier for a large grocery store. In the middle of the night a guy came running in asking to exchange some halves for bills. He couted out $30 in halves and I gave him the cash. When looking to put the halves in my cash drawer I realized they were all Franklins!!!

I figured he just ripped off his old man, and his dealer would not accept loose change.

So far my favorite has been a tie between a 1938, 1939, and 1950 D nickels in change. Other than silver JFKs, of course. image
  • The neatest thing I ever found in change was a 1971-D dime with a filled die error that totally obscured the word "DIME" on the reverse.

It's a very cool error, and I still have it over 20 years later.

I found one of those super rare image double headed Kennedy halfs.
Got to be worth a gazillion, ya think?
The most money I made are on coins I haven't sold.

    Got quoins?
  • Two neat finds, actually - A 1935 Buff in AU, no doubt some kid spent it from a collection. Also found a 1997-D dime with extremely strong die clash. A complete strong outline of Roosie's head appeared on the reverse, and distinct leaf and torch flames adorned the obverse portrait.

  • Long time ago, a 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent in milk money change. It HAD to be uncirculated as it was way too perfect. Some poor dad had his coins raided by their child for milk money, and was in for a huge suprise.

I found a no date buffalo nickel in a PetSmart parking lot, it was in pretty sad shape being pretty nicked up and slightly bent, but was very surprised to find it.

  • I got a $1.00 silver certificate...pre "In God We trust" (don't know anything about currency, I think it would be 1935 series). Had it not been handed to me in change, I would swear it was Crisp Unc. Somebody must've broke into daddy's currency collection for beer money.

I don't know if this can be considered a circulation find , but I once purchased $100 face of WLH's from a bank for $100. I also have a neat $10 bill with an ink smear on the reverse that I found in circulation.
