In the recent Bowers sale here in CA (Rarities Sale) there was a set of Buffalo nickels up for grabs. There was an incredible 1919-S in MS66 that was a complete FULL STRIKE. I had NEVER seen one like this...EVER. Oh...did I mention it also have amazing rainbow rim toning? Yikes! OK...what happned? Well, most of the coins were going for big money. A few lots earlier a 1916-P in 67 went for $10000! $10,000!!? For a friggen COMMON 16-P? Yup! All because of the Pop Report, I'm sure. Absurd. Well, what about the 19-S...a REAL rarity? It goes for MS66 BLUE SHEET money!! Huh??! That's right, Blue Sheet.
Makes no sense, right? Well, I forgot to mention that the 19-S was graded my ICG. I guess that made a difference....eventually the coin will be in a PCGS holder, possibly in 66. It was a great buy at Blue Sheet...believe me...even if PCGS grades it 65, IMO.

I don't see this sort of thing on Walkers (though I haven't looked at as many of them as some people on this board), and it is more prevalent on copper and nickel than silver coinage. The coin obviously has not been dipped (no dipped coin retones like that). Just curious.
