I admit it, I caught the toning bug

It started slowly like an itch, probably incubated in a navy blue IH proof TomB sold me. Be forewarned if you ever deal with this guy. Then an 1859 IH with amazing colors from Rick Snow gave me hot flashes -- I never thought I'd kiss an ANACS MS63 slab. I'm not sure what happened at Long Beach but now I find myself with these 4 strange coins. Some adverse reaction to seeing all those blast red IHs at the Showdown must have pushed me over the edge.
1888 NGC 3-Cent Nickel. I vaguely remember meeting Mark Feld of Pinnacle and think he had something to do with this. Longacre designed it so maybe I thought it was an Indian cent. Let me know if I paid you or just walked away from your table with it Mark.
These two PCGS IH proofs in various shades of blue and lavender were wrapped in an Eagle Eye invoice, so at least I know I paid for them. The mirrored fields & translucent tones must have given me flashback's to TomB's coin: 1907, 1884.
The last coin makes no sense to me at all. If anyone happened to see me looking at this at the show I'd appreciate some feedback about my condition at the time (was I wearing both shoes, did I let the dealer write the check for me, etc...). I love a nicely toned Indian cent but I think I remember reading that the blood red/wintergreen combo are not standard colors for an 1898 MS66RB. I'm sure I bought this thinking it was a proof, but please don't tell anyone, OK? The fact that I love it, AT and all, is the final sign.

NICKEL TRIUMPH BIG SET
Apparently, I remember you (and the check for $20,000 you gave us for that MS67 3CN) better than you remember me! OK, maybe it wasn't quite $20,000. The proof Indian cents look nice!, though I am always hestitant to comment on coins I haven't viewed in person. Good to see you at the show and glad you have the toning bug. I have it myself and have, for a long tme.
Paul its only Natural. Thats how Older coins Should Look !! Nice Pictures.

I was at your side when you bought some of those - I was thinking you had lost it since you were still wearing the toy guns and Barbie cowboy hat from the showdown - now I'm REALLY convinced you've gone over the edge.
Does anyone else out there know where this will lead??
Actually that 1898 looks kind of neat. Don't think you bought that one from Eagle Eye.
take 2 of them, send to me, and call me in the morning.........
I don't know what that'll do for your "bug" but it would make me feel better!!
Next thing you know Paul, you'll be buying "moderns".
you better act quick!
Edited: too much red indian is like too much chocolate, you need a break from it once in awhile to enjoy it.
A few weeks back there was a post about slabbing low value coins.
Here is one of my favorite toned coins -- with a trends value of only about $ 5!
Copper toning can be amazing.

Speaking of TomB... where is he? I miss his input on this board. I hope he hasn't been scared away.
I still have to say I have a love for the original. there is just something about a coin that has survived for that long and is still the way it was made.

My 1866 Philly Mint Set
Really sorry I missed you at Long Beach. Let me know when you come out here again; I live & work 5 minutes from LAX.
If I do this right, here's another toned coin for you!1899 Liberty Nickel
The image is dark; the toning DOES NOT impede the luster one bit.
JOM should post his Buff here as well; it's a real beauty!

Uh...ok.
1930-P Obverse
1930-P Reverse
I didn't take these pictures but the coin isn't as "blue" in the center as the picture shows. It DOES have a blueish cast in the center however as often happens with nickel.
