I agree! I think we should also stop starting new threads about it!

    nwcs,

There is actually an entire new field of study that has emerged around the psychology of internet interaction. Of course most of it is bogus - anything to make a buck.

    Karl,

Twice in a lifetime. I once again find myself agreeing with you. Constant hugging, while nice, can become a bit boring.

I don't mind the occassional scuffle. Keeps things interesting. So long as most of the time we stick with cool coin things. image

hey russ, we actually agree on a lot. it's just more fun arguing about it.

imagine this kind of a thread:

PERSON1: i think such and such
    PERSON2: i agree
    RUSS: i agree two. bwuhahahahahah
    DORKKARL: me three
    PERSON2: well i agreed first!
    RUSS: so did i!
    DORKKARL: i agree.

    yuck.

I ought to write a little program to do the posting for me and post random (hopefully insightful) comments on the board. You know, like parsing through coin world and other online mags, digesting their stuff, then reposting it here as thread topics. With a little work, I could have it doing hundreds of posts per hour... image

HEY nwcs! only about 150 more posts & i'll be caught up w/ you too!!! DOH!

I know, I remember when you were about 1/2 of what I had when I was in the 700s and you were in the 300s. And I thought *I* was talkative! image

Sometimes you just have to ignore some people and leave it at that. Unfortunately there are a few people here with a financial stake in some things, which affects what they say. it's too bad, but usually the decerning readers can deduce who they are and take that into account when they read the posts.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

True, and sometimes discretion is the better part of valor. Or as Kenny Rogers sang, "know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away, know when to run."

Even when there is a commotion, it generally lasts only a couple days and is followed by weeks of smooth sailing. That's a pretty good ratio. I don't know why people would leave the board over a couple of days of turmoil.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Flaming and "I know you are, but what am I?" comments should be taken to the Open Forum.

  • I believe healthy debates between people who do not agree is perfectly acceptable but it sucks when the name calling starts. I posted in several threads that peoples feathers were in a ruffle but the debates stayed in what I would call professional discourse. I have not seen a thread, that I can remember that names were actually called. What threads are you talking about?
  • Here's a hint, Clackamas. They are the only threads on the first page with over 100 responses.

I am not a Kennedy collector so I never even opened the thread. Glad I didn't get hooked in as well.

  • Thanks for that link Frank.
I saw a forum that was devoted to some period in history,a certain war/battle.
I wanted to send the link to Askari as it was about time period/battle,he might be interested in,but knowing him,hes there already.

    lol,to add,just noticed your the moderator there.image
  • if you like NFL football, and enjoy kibitzing with fans of other teams, it is a nice forum.

Don't worry about the Moderator, as a coin afficianado, you would be considered a "connected guy"

  • People don't need to leave the board. They only need to be selective in what they read. I don't have time to read every post and every reply, although I would often like to. So I pick and choose those that I find the most interesting or are in an area that I have the most interest in or the ones that just catch my eye. Others would be wise to do that if their sensibilities are offended by certain threads.

Havning said that, some 'trolls' need to be responded to in order to present the opposing viewpoint and expose them for what you think they are. They may not need to be responded to 100 plus times image but, hey, we are only human!
