Got my 1874S PCGS MS65 Arrows Quarter Today

What do you think? It has a light gold even patina tone on the obverse and a small area on the reverse at the 8 oclock position. The picture makes the tone look heavier than it really is. Luster is good (not great) with a cartwheel affect.

That's really a nice quarter. I like it. I don't see what you are talking about on the reverse at 8:00 however.

    Very nice.

Looks like a very classy coin! Is this part of a type set?

( I should have read your footer -- I guess that answers my question!)

    shaaaaaazaaam, I like it.
  • I picked it up in this auction.

I was a little hesitant about it due to his bad pictures but prior to bidding he assured me it was nice and offered a good return policy if I did not like it. I am glad I took the chance and could not be happier. The tone on the reverse is between 7 & 9.

    WWB,

I think you did fine on this coin. The luster still looks fine. Satiny tends to be the rule rather than blazing or PL luster. $2500 will get you a bid bad dog and I haven't seen anyone offering their dogs that cheap. $3000 for a coin that you like is a bargain. Arrows coinage are blue chips. They are some of the first coins to contract in price when the market falls, and the first ones to spread apart when things are going up.

There you have it, the reassuring words from roadrunner. image

All kidding aside, it looks like a nice likeable coin!

But now......really........... is the reverse truly bigger than the obverse? I couldn't understand why the reverse looked easier to see for 3 whole minutes!!

    Bill,

What's most important here is that YOU like it. And, I see that wrote that you could not be happier. In that case, I'm very pleased for you. Congrats...

LMAO.... I took about 3 pics of the obverse and reverse, those were the 2 that was not blurry and came out the best.

  • THat is a beautiful coin, congrats.

I bid on a few auctions from Reeded Edge, They never reached reserve. Each time I got an email offer to buy it at the "reserve." They always claimed thier coins were real nice for the grade. I thought they were just shopping for customers.

Love the coin ... now please, when you get it, share the pix of Arrows and Rays type. Love those Rays on my EF example, can only imagine it in gem unc ... way to go, Bill.
  • That is really nice. I love the design on these coins and it will surely be my next endeavor, especially after threads like these!

    Thanks WWBillman.
  • Bill-
An absolutely astonishingly beautiful coin. A great acquisition! You have every reason to be proud. Thank you for sharing with us.

It sure is a lovely quarter; looks about fresh off the die. If I may ask, where do you stand on quarters in your type collection? Do you display the set as a whole? How (book, case, box of slabs)?

I've noticed that many high end 19th Century high end type coins have a golden or cream colored patina; I assume it's due to retoning after being dipped (and very few of these coins have NOT been dipped). I have a Seated Half that looks a bit like your quarter. Looks like you got a good deal to me.
