He's taking a pretty solid swipe at non-collectors, (himself included), as well. A pretty entertaining piece, actually.

  • I'm proud to be a collector, even if many think I'm a geek, nerd, etc. (I've always been one or the other in other peoples' opinions). But then again, I earned a PhD in Finance and Investments when I was 31, have made some decent money in investment banking, and am now a Professor of Finance at a major mid-western university.

So, let the rest of the world giggle, demean, criticize, wonder(!) about me (us).

I love it!! (Plus, I've got some neat coins....and I'm getting more!!) image

That's a good piece. Perceptive, too. While it is fun to ridicule those amongst us who take their collecting too seriously, there is no doubt which side of the fence I'm on. Better to be a monomaniacal collector than a drab, lifeless drone of a noncollector... image

Why is it that "normal" people think that coin collectors are such dorks and geeks

Beats the heck out of me. Everybody knows that stamp collectors are the REAL geeks! image

Great article...thanks dpoole. There are people who collect and those who don't....I like the former better. K

<< <i>The sad truth is, we who do not collect things are deeply and bitterly envious of people who do. And the reason for this is simple. We are completely distracted by modern life. We are going mental. And they, so it seems, are not. >>

Great statement, and so true.I've heard those sentiments expressed a couple of times from friends who don't really have hobbies. Thanks for sharing that article.

  • He sure has those geeky Lick -N- Sticks pegged well.
