How about a grading party?

It seems that many people would like to be better at grading, I know I would. How about getting together and having a grading party? I could supply the steaks and beer and folks could bring coins and discuss their grades and WHY they think they are the grades that they are. I live in the L.A. area so for this party it would have to be here. Any thoughts?

Sorry I can't make it LA though.

<< <i>That is a great idea! LA is a little far for me though. Anyone in the Orlando, FL area? >>
Well, UncleJoe, two prospects for your grading party, and they are nearby you, would be Alan Hager (controls Accucrap) and Brian Beardsley (controls PCI). If you get them together for a grading party I will come even if it meant crawling thru broken glass the whole way. The mind reals at the thought of those two strokes at a grading party!

Maybe another gathering around Long Beach time might bring some out of towners.

Hopefully let me add some insight. Getting together to grade coins is a good idea. I get together with several local coin club members twice a month and grade coins. Everybody brings some coins and we all grade them and compare/share ideas/and what I have learned at the ANA grading and advanced grading class. We have lamps, a table to spead out on and keep the rest of the room dark like a grading room.
You guys want to go to a fast food restraunt out in public look at coins and have a meal? What about security? Won't you feel wierd showing all these expensive coins that somebody may want to steal? What about lighting? Who is going to grade right under those lights way above? Everybody complains at coin shows, and they have the same type of lighting. And lastly, food should be kept seperate from the grading!
Pick a different place and have the proper equipment. People will keep coming back and want to share their coins. Hopefully these thoughts may help.

No, I was thinking more along my home where it would be dark, regardless of time of day and there would be plenty of room for folks. We might drink beer while grading coins, but food would be eaten first. I have not thought about security, so folks really should not bring any $10,000+ dollar coins. I do have one 1853 3-band Enfield for protection, though.
