OK! It's that time again for another grading contest. Same rules as before, you get 1 point for every point you are off on the grade (i.e. if you guess MS-63 and it's MS-65, you get 2 points), and 1/2 point for missing designations (i.e. if you guess DCAM and it's CAM, etc). The person with the LOWEST total score wins, and in the event of a tie, any comments included in the guesses will be considered, or as a last resort, I will rely on a random number generator in Excel. You may only win one of these every 60 days, so if you won one of these in the last 60 days, you cannot win the prize, but you are welcome to guess for fun! The contest will end at 4:00 PM Pacific Time (7:00 PM Eastern Time) tomorrow, August 23, 2002. The PRIZE this time is a lovely uncirculated 1923 Peace Dollar! For this contest, we are going back to the classic designs of the 19th century, each one was graded by PCGS. Here they are:

And the winner is: boiler78 with a score of 1!!! He quessed all the first four correctly, but missed the double eagle by one point with a guess of MS-61. PM me with your address and I will send off the 1923 Peace Dollar. For the ranges of guesses, they are as follows:
#1 AU-53 to MS-65
#2 MS-62 to MS-66
#3 AU-55 to MS-67
#4 MS-63 to MS-67
#5 EF-40 to MS-63
I hope you all had fun, and a big thank you to everyone that participated!
Are all of the PCGS slabs of the same vintage?
I am curious which PCGS slabs they are.
Hmm...on #2 to #4, I was over by a grade each........
That Liberty II was real tough to grade too! The luster is great behind all that chatter.
#1 - MS63
#2 - MS66
#3 - MS63
#4 - MS64
#5 - AU53
Russ, NCNE
What generation are the other PCGS holders?
Yes, I believe I commented also about the gold coin possibly going AU-58 as well. But that luster was wonderful without appearance of wear and it seemed to override the digs and chatter.
all the coins are in the safe deposit box now, but as I recall, they were mostly the later ones with the bluish insert, though I think one was in an older green insert, but don't ask me which one. I suppose I'll have to start taking photos of the whole slab from now on! Though that may increase the opportunity for cheating if you figure out my file naming conventions!
I also guessed PR63 on the V-nickle since jtryka usually mixes a proof in the group to mess with us
63 correct
62 low, but I thought it was a little baggy
63 , 64?? no way, I have a 1891 in 64 and its barely got a nick on it, but then again mine is an NGC
65 correct
61 high, I guess I've seen worse uncs so I didn't go 60
3 points for me, not bad
