The unfortunate part is that I bought the ‘93s in the 1970s and early ‘80s. They are a bear and cost an arm and a leg today. They were “not perfect” back then. The Chain Cent had the mark on the obverse and the Wreath Cent had edge issues. The color and surfaces were good. The “perfect ones” were out of reach for me at that time. The $14,000 examples cost six figures today. I didn’t have the money.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
When I was focusing on the Middle Dates, I used to fund my collection by flipping the early and late date cents. The 1857 cents were always easy and profitable sellers.
I acquired these two in a fairly close time frame, back when prices were reasonable, and decided to hold on to them:

Interesting that you traded up for it…. I almost traded up mine some years ago for a VF35 (in an older holder, but possibly the same coin as yours). Mine was still raw at the time, wasn’t sure of the value, and decided not to tie up that much in one coin, especially since I had expanded beyond the Middle Dates and needed funds for Classic Heads, liberty caps, etc.

The 11/0 is indeed tough, and elusive to me. I recall some years ago passing on a somewhat rough VF in a dealer’s stock box priced at $65….I wanted a nice one. Well those are now priced at $300-400, and the “nice” ones are 5x, when you even see one.
Here are a few that I have at the moment. I used to have a classic head F-VF set that was much nicer, ended up selling them much to my chagrin. Also had a chain cent and one of each early head date. These are pretty cheap ones, $200 or so each, or less. Been a fun set. I think the 1809 barely squeezed by into a straight grade. The 1811/0 is very nice for the grade.

It was a big hold up for me completing my 7070 and I resorted to a VF details coin. The 11/0 is probably my worst coin of the Classic Head run in my album, but the overdate is bold.

Thanks! It's the only one in the date run that has a couple of patches of that gawd-awful green corrosion. My 1811 was struck on misaligned dies... but again, the date is bold and at least there's no corrosion! lol!
Love your Liberty Caps! I got a 1794 in PCGS VF20 for the Type... I shared that one earlier... my album coins are a bit more rough...

Love Large Cents, but only own a handful. When I was 10-12 I poured over the Redbook, with a particular interest in Vermonts, Higleys and Classic Head large cents. They all had a mystique to them.
I’ve had nice Vermonts and CH large cents, but have yet to seriously consider a Higley.
Other passions include golf, Moto Guzzi motorcycles, and Euro motorcycles in general.

Funny how we all have our 'coins we never seem to find'. For me it would be the 1803 large date, small fraction (S-265). All the ones I see are too expensive, and often in very poor shape.
