I finished off gold (by denomination) with a $3 Princess the last time I did this poll. I went in a different direction with the Lincoln and got a nice 1909-S VDB that re-completed a set I got from my brother... so I'm down to...

  1. 1793 Large Cent Wreath... technically, I'd be finishing Large Cent Type with a Flowing Hair representative... all the major designs, but I'd still be two tough coins to complete the date run (1799 and 1804)
  2. 1795 Flowing Hair Half... completes all the major Types for Half Dollars
  3. 1787 Fugio... First Federal Contract coinage... history... and I've always wanted one... lol

    1787 Fugio Cent

Although I really like the first two choices (a lot!), I voted for the Fugio.

Why? You said you've always wanted one!

My vote would be whichever example of any of the three beckons you the most strongly with its appearance (and is priced at a level that you’re comfortable with).

    1793 Large Cent, Wreath

You’re a hardcore large cent guy, go get that Wreath cent!

But I saw from your Baltimore (non) report that you’re funding other projects in your life right now, so the Fugio is the least expensive, so maybe scratch that itch first.

    1787 Fugio Cent

If you always wanted the third, get that one. You will never not be happy getting something you always wanted.

    1787 Fugio Cent

The first US cent, of course! Especially if you've always wanted one.

lol! Maybe I subliminally placed it at number one on "the list"?

    1787 Fugio Cent

I would go for them all and buy the one that first hits you between the eyes. I answered Fugio because it may be the most obtainable. Lots of higher-grade Fugio survivors.

Ironically, I’ve had a 1795 half on my want list for over 30 years. I was seeking an all-there, problem free Fine, having passed on many G-VG coins over the years. Still looking. And now the price has gone up considerably.
I’ve also wanted a London Elephant token for quite awhile, and those also have gone up a good bit.

Probably about 20 years for me... 1795 Half. Oddly, I've never been drawn into collecting any individual series of half dollars but I do like them as representative type coins. Seriously looking at getting one into my collection since I started my 7070.

Large Cents have been on my radar since I was about 12 years old and a 1793 is "lore" for me... ditto the Fugio Cent and links to Ben Franklin.

Since all the coins are on your list, I'd go for the one purchase which offered the best value you can afford.

Well circulated, common die variety Fugio Cents used to be cheaper than most of the other coins on your list. How far up the grade chain do you need to go?

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

For the 1793 LC, I'd like to get to G4 to VG8 with no major planchet issues.

...1795 Half, I'd like a solid F12. I think that would mate up nicely with the VF30 Draped Bust and the XF45 pieces I have for the remaining coins.

...1787 Fugio... these seem to be all over the map "appearance-wise" in lower grades... a combination of inconsistent planchets, a little corrosion, and outright damage. I'd like to get a no problems VF. I think that would mate well with the VF20 1794 Liberty Cap I'm keeping in my Box of 20...
