Not many denominations were made in 1808.
Post your coin(s) and any thoughts about it and or this particular year in Numismatics.

My only 1808. I like this date due to the two year design, and it's much more reasonably priced than the 1807. I assume it was the depression of 1807-1810 that reduced demand for minor coinage, but there was obviously still some need for the largest silver and gold denominations.
The oversized Liberty on Half Dollars from the era are quite impressive. I use to have a few 1808 coins but I could only ever seem to get the 07 as a Drape coin.
I do wonder though if the dual mintage styles make 1807 coins more popular, of course along with the first year status.
I do love the 1808 for it's novelty but must also admit the later reduced portrait gives the coin a more balanced and centered look. I don't think bust Halves would have lasted as many years if the change had not been made. James
I prefer 1807 over 1808 for the halves, but the 1808 quarter eagles are certainly a fascinating rarity. I've handled a couple XFs but none of the high grade examples.

I have a few ... and I'll even add my favorite one for this thread.

One of the neat things about 1808 in the Capped Bust (Turban Head) Half Dollars is that it is the original design for the series, which can only be seen on 1807 and 1808 dated coins. Additionally, because of various star types on the 1807, and the fact that Half Dollars have two completely different design types for 1807 (Draped and Capped Bust types), the 1808 is a singular design type for the year, with only the overdate providing for any variety designations.
The HUB dies were modified starting in 1809, and so these then are part of the first sub-type for the Capped Bust series, which went through many evolutions to the design during the series run from 1807 through 1836 (or 1839 if you care to include the Reeded Edge-type Capped Bust Half Dollars).
For the Obverse, compared to the later revisions, the original design has a somewhat taller and "more vertical" overall portrait, with a less rounded bust, a bap that shows both above and below the LIBERTY headband, longer ends to the ribbon behind the hair, and noticeable changes to the curls that also show more more of Miss Liberty's ear. Additionally a smaller clasp and longer and more flourishing fold on the drapery makes that appear fuller than later variations.
For the Reverse, the design seems even more distinctly different than any of the following modifications. The portrait of the Eagle seems to have a more "defiant and fierce" stance and appearance, with a noticeably smaller and thinner Shield, and different positions and details of the Eagle's head, wings, neck, beak and claws. Modifications to the scroll and other changes to the arrows and olive branch are noticeable with closer scrutiny.

Here's my fantastic and mesmerizing 1808 O-108a, ex-Friedman, ex-Keigwin, which I feel very privileged to own.

This is my 1808, Sheldon 277, 12 Star variety. May be my favorite Classic Cent as the color is great and it’s got that bit of red on the reverse.

Cool thread.
An 1808 Half Eagle owned at one time.
They started out being worth two 1808 Quarter Eagles. That has changed slightly since then.

Always found 1808 an interesting coinage year. Denominations issued in 1808 were part of a two year span of design changes:
.
1808 Half Cent - the only 1808 still using an older design, new design in 1809
1808 Cent - first year of new design
No Half Dime - last was 1805, no new ones until 1829
No Dime - last was 1807, new design in 1809
No Quarter - last was 1807, new design in 1815
1808 Half Dollar - both the old and new designs issued the year before in 1807
No Silver Dollar - last was 1803, next issued in 1834; 1836 or 1840 depending on how you view it
1808 Quarter Eagle; one year type - last was 1807, no new ones until 1821
1808 Half Eagle - both the old and new designs issued the year before in 1807
No Gold Eagle - last was 1804, new design in 1838

Another O-108a

Just need a post showing someones nice 1808 Half Cent and an 1808 Quarter Eagle to have all the denominations that were issued.
If I recall, @BillJones may be able to help with one or both of those.

A somewhat new acquisition….and one I’m very pleased to own. Ex. Jules Reiver and George Ramont.

@jesbroken likely has an 1808 half cent.
In the meantime here’s my humble cent, still a tough coin to find straight graded even in lower grades:
Tried to upload an 1808/7 Half Cent, but would not allow it. Tired of this.

This WAS my ‘08 half cent, sold it to a member here (nice guy)…. This is his pic. Looking for another higher grade piece, man they are tough to find nice.
I sold most of my half cent die variety collection. The 1808's, the normal and the more common overdate variety when with it. BTW, the 1808 half cent in the previous post is very nice. It hard to get that date in grades higher than Choice VF.
Here is my 1808 quarter eagle.
And I have an 1808 large cent in my one a year cent collection.

My first old coin, Christmas present in the 1970s. Overgraded and overpriced. Still have it, but no idea what to do with it.
Finally, I was able to get these two phtos loaded. It amazes me how some days, I have no problems and others are nightmares. Today I had no problem uploading other date .jpg coins from same file but not these. I had to rephoto with camera, send to phone and upload from phone gallery.
Some very nice coins presented.

Only half cent I have. I think it’s an 1808, but it’s hard to tell between the wear and what is maybe environmental damage that someone tried to clean off. But I like it because it’s the oldest coin in the collection I inherited from my grandfather.

Yes 1808 DBHCent C-3.

What's the big deal? 5 types struck, no mint marks, just like 1967.

Definitely not a genuine US mint issued piece, as it’s the wrong Liberty head, for starters.
I should have known That. I am losing it.
