Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
MS64 !! I know. Is it worthy of sending in for a gold cac? I am puzzled. I thought a 66 for originality or at least a 65. I know.. the toning is obviously not the best but its obvious of its original skin and blueish luster visible on the left side of the field on the obverse. Caught my eye
I'm not loving the eye appeal, which is why I didn't guess a grade earlier. The cynic in me believes that if this coin were in an OGH at the MS64 grade that it would have a better chance at a gold sticker than being in the current holder. Obviously, I can't prove that at all, but it is in the back of my mind. I would guess a green sticker for this coin, but I see little downside in sending it in with the hope of a gold sticker.
I had the grade correct above and I can explain my thoughts. It has a rather large hit on the nose along with a few small scattered areas on the face/neck. It does not have great eye appeal thanks to the darker toning and finger print and spots under the motto. Luster is somewhat subdued for a higher grade WQ.
I think if you sent it in for the variety and got it regraded at the same time, you could possibly get it in a 65 holder but it seems accurate. Im just not certain it is financially worth it. I love the series but never got into many of the varieties other than the type B/C reverses and the OMM.
Honestly I would have graded it AU58 for the rub on the hair curls over the ear. The print is highly distracting and overall the tone is not pleasing or attractive to me. It might get a green bean but if so it would be one of those where I personally would disagree with CAC and certainly would not pay 64 money let alone a premium for it.

Also* This came from an original Wayte Raymond holder from the 50's
I does appear original save for the print that doubtfully can be removed or somewhat toned down. MS66 is my opinion.

If you look at the trueview looks like a RPM D/D but didn't get the attribution either

What the hail! It should be a 66 CAC bare minimum. Send to CAC no questions asked.
