This show was a delayed Xmas gift for our son so the show is really for him. I was tasked on following him around so I really don't get much wax time for myself.

If you have the time, I would appreciate it if you could post some photos of any hard to find wax pack trays at bbce booth or anywhere at the national... thank you.

I have not seen tough ones..just the usual 1979s plus a couple fake 1979 hockey trays.

were the hockey trays raw ? 1979 trays,

    So raw 😁

I feel for the dealers (and buyers) who have to lug all those cases around. That's some heavy weight.

Those unopened are awesome. I was going through some stuff over the weekend and found 45-50 1983 grocery racks I had in a box. From the price here maybe I need to sell those bad boys.

Steve sold a 1st series 1969 baseball cello box yesterday for 275K.

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

Does REA have any cards from its auction on display? If so…can someone provide pics?

Sorry ..I only allow my phone to take pictures of unopened items. I don't even open my eyes while walking around until I sense unopened is nearby.

I find enjoyment in vicariously playing the game of Got That, Need That. Thanks for all the pics.

    Farewell Ryno.

If you look at the 1 photo all the unopened that REA has on display some is in their summer auction I can tell from the 72 cello with harmon K on front, that is for the unopened not sure about single cards.

I don't think that Steve will wrap 1979 Hockey trays. Several have been opened, on camera, all of them have been shown to be fake. The consensus is that none were made by Topps.

Monte - they have their catalog link up for the auction if you want to see the cards. I can take specific pictures if you want to see something in particular. Will try to provide an overall recap tomorrow if I get a chance on the show.

How is an 82BB wax only $25 more than an 80FB wax?

    Thought there’d be more range.

Steve graded some packs I submitted from a tape intact BBCE box as N5 altered stock. The majority graded PSA 9 but some were altered. I’m not certain about anything he labels.

I noticed the older man’s unopened were all raw….buyer beware. I would only buy PSA-slabbed unopened.

That's Steve Sabow. Run as fast as you can. He had most of the same packs at the 2021 National. He refuses to get them authenticated.

I could swear I saw that guy at a National over 30 years ago. Hasn't aged a bit.

Ok, so this guy is apparently a known quantity. That trends toward him fearing they are not all authentic. I feel the exact same way about raw Brady rookie tickets.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Did he give a reason why he refuses to get them certified? You would think if he knew for sure they were legit packs he would have them certified as he would be able to sell them for a higher price.

Does anyone have an update on the amount of high grade vintage that's available and are the prices reasonable?

I never bothered to ask him. I've heard the reasons he gave from advanced pack collectors but since I didn't hear it directly from him, I won't post it.

I went on Thursday and saw a lot of high grade vintage. Mantles, Jackies, Koufax rookies, some 33 Goudey, Unitas rookies etc. Most beyond my price range so I didn’t pay too close of attention except for Jackie. I stupidly sold a really nice 54 PSA 5 (albeit to upgrade my one Mantle and my Dr. J rookie from a 6 to a 7) and his prices were all over the place. PSA 6s of that card for $1500-1600 (fair based on sales and PSA value) and other tables where PSA/SGC 2s and 3s were priced at $800-900 (absurd).

Wonder if he sells enough of alleged suspect material to justify the cost of setting up at the National.

I heard him tell his wife he sold half dozen 1954 Bowman packs so far...that was the first day. Unsure if baseball or football.

How is he allegedly suspect? I don’t get it. The guy has been setting up at the National longer than some of our members here have been alive. Don’t you really think if this guy was selling bogus stuff that a bad reputation would follow him around forever. He wouldn’t be at a huge convention for sure. He probably doesn’t feel compelled to use grading because he’s “old school”. He’s not the only one. Many people forsake grading because they don’t want to bother with it. To toss about rhetoric about a person who doesn’t follow the pattern expected by money grabbers on grading doesn’t mean he’s cheating people.

For me its never been about a specific buying goal. its to meet up and crack bread with fellow collectors. Nationals all about name to face and getting an actual feel for the people we deal with regularly. Did every show thru 2006. Stopped when they went corporate over tradition.

Deals are made well b4 shows open, even on unopened, and who needs to suck up peoples BO all day. I never see beyond Weds previews and then spend the rest eating and visiting , playing golf and chilling.

I'd rather attend larger regional shows and visit card stores. Play golf and darts and suck up Chitown food scene. Attend a Cubbies game. Pack up buys that never saw the show floor and leave. Rather than waste Natl money I'll do Industry related shows. Money i consider better use
