Vikings fans tired of McCarthy's being hurt all the time excited to see undrafted former University of Minnesota QB Max Brosmer get a start. He has looked pretty good at times in limited action.
I have mixed feelings. If the Vikings lose their final two games, they will probably get a higher draft pick next year. With some extra picks from losing Darnold and Jones, this could help the team quite a bit.
I always find myself hoping they win once the game starts.

Been a horrible season for Vikings injury wise.
Went out and got All Pro center Ryan Kelly and he has only made 8 starts and appears to be done for the season. Multiple concussions. Might be time to look for another center.
All Pro left tackle Christian Darrisaw has been hurt all year and we are beginning to wonder if his surgically repaired knee will ever heal.
McCarthy has been hurt twice now. It would have been nice to get him a full year under his belt. He has looked good the last 3 weeks against lousy defenses. Potentially giving him experience and confidence. Assuming he's going to be shut down.
Defense has played extremely well with the offense struggling to put drives together with the 28th ranked offense in yardage.

Georgetown's head basketball coach just got ONE game for firing a water bottle into the crowd and hitting a kid.
DK Metcalf story just got a little more weird
From NFL.com
“Per Pelissero, Metcalf reported the same fan to Seahawks security last season when he played for Seattle (the Seahawks played at the Lions in Week 4 of the 2024 season),”
And there was no way the Washington-Dallas game had attendance of 64,407 in a stadium capacity of 65,000. All stadium shots looked about 75% full at best.
Defense played out of their minds. Offense, uh, didn't.
the last time I brought the offense up you fact-checked me with the number of points they had scored on the season, and i was taken aback by that
because the only thing that's seared into my brain is the game against Philly and the one yesterday where they were beyond painful to watch and had the look of a group that desperately missed BJ
they were not playing the purple people eaters yesterday and have too many weapons to ever look like that. at no point was it a matter of, "when are they going to score?"............it was a matter of, "when's the next turnover going to happen?"
you never have that feeling watching the Bears. they have a +21 turnover differential -- easily the best in the NFL -- and that's the primary reason why they are in the playoffs. under Johnson they are efficient and make minimal mistakes, which is something that hadn't been the case in years.
i stand by what i said -- Detroit sorely misses BJ and it shows. and if you hit me with injuries talk, whereas that's indeed valid, i'm simply going to remind you that every team has them at this point in the season. the Lions are not the same team without their offensive coordinator and the eye test bears that out.
Detroit has been a massive let down this season, Dan Campbell took over the offensive play calling and sure Detroit has done well in plenty of games but when they needed to come up. with something different for the flow of a current quagmire they were in like yesterday they fell flat on their faces not making proper adjustments.
I'm not even getting into the gunslinger attitude of going for it on 4th down rather than taking FG's here.
I brought this up yesterday, Goff had zero time to drop back and scan the field without some madman Viking running towards him, so in his wisdom Campbell sends his RB into motion out to the flat for less protection.
Goff had a terrible game, it's not all on Campbell but overall I don't know of any team with more talent on their roster to miss the playoffs, Baltimore is close but not really
During the broadcast I heard that Detroit had a couple players on the OL out and a couple guys were playing out of position. Campbell picked the wrong time to start being conservative on offense, but that game is mostly on Gibbs and Goff.
they were not playing the purple people eaters yesterday and have too many weapons to ever look like that. at no point was it a matter of, "when are they going to score?"............it was a matter of, "when's the next turnover going to happen?"
Minnesota is 5th in yards allowed and averages 3 sacks a game. They aren't the 85 Bears but they're definitely an above average defense.
That said, most of the turnovers were strictly the fault of the Lions and not the Vikings. 2 of the Goff fumbles were the center and both interceptions were on him.
i stand by what i said -- Detroit sorely misses BJ and it shows. and if you hit me with injuries talk, whereas that's indeed valid, i'm simply going to remind you that every team has them at this point in the season.
Everybody has injuries. Nobody has as many. And they had two Pro Bowl OL leave the team as well.
They miss Johnson but he's nowhere near the #1 reason they're out of the playoffs. Roster, head coach, injuries, schedule are all much bigger reasons.

Its funny that Minnesota's Defense decides to be so good once they are eliminated from the playoffs lol
Top 10 defense before the Lions game.
The Vikings offense hasn't held the ball much this year either.
I would like to see a stat that compared how long the Offense controlled the ball and how many points the defense gives up.
LOTS of 3 and outs this year with decimated offensive line (3 best lineman were out yesterday) and new, oft injured QB.
Was hoping to get O line fixed this year. Kelly, the Center we picked up looks like he could be done with football. Too many concussions. Darrisaw has now taken 2 years after surgery on his knee and still not recovered. Even O'Neil has been hurt this year. That's 3 all pro players.
Same problem at Quarterback. McCarthy has been hurt twice. He showed some improvement, but a full year would have been nice.

I was only referring to the Lions challenges. Congrats to the Vikings on beating them. The Vikings offensive line stunk too. Did they give up 7 sacks?
How much better has Caleb been with a good offensive line this year?
i haven't watched every Vikes game, but i have seen McCarthy play in a few of them. i've witnessed glimpses -- both good and bad. as it stands, he has thrown more picks than tuh-dees and that's not sustainable -- regardless of the o-line situation. perhaps that will change in year 2 as a starter, which is a role i assume he will have a chance to retain. a healthy, competent offensive line means everything. if he hasn't had it this season, hopefully he gets it in the next
btw, first two years as a starter:
Josh Allen - 30 TD, 21 INT
Caleb - 43 TD, 12 INT
here's my unbiased take on CW. i'm happy with him as we near the end of year 2, but he does have a penchant for making easy plays look hard, and vice versa. i'd like to see more consistency. but regardless of what has or has not transpired in a particular game, he has shown that he possesses the "it" factor because he has driven the team down the field and won a lot of close games this season. his 4th down TD throw with :28 left and then the dime to DJ Moore in OT last week against the Pack are prime examples.
Pat Bev threw a ball into the stands at someone twice last year and smoked a woman in the face with it and only got a 4 game suspension from the NBA. Hes now facing domestic violence charges this year

Yes, 7 sacks.
Announcers couldn't have been more biased.
Vikings leading in first half, with possession of the ball and less than 3 minutes until halftime.
Announcers; "Lions have time to score twice before half and take the lead, then they receive 2nd half kickoff".

I guess I should have said "Bears" instead of Caleb Williams.
They finished 5-12 and in last place. This year they are in first place at 11-4.
Caleb also attempted 562 passes his first year, McCarthy has thrown 220 and won just as many games already.
Caleb doesn't throw many picks, although he did have 5 in his first 9 games.
JJ had a rough start. In his first 6 games he threw 6 TD's and 10 INT's.
Since then it's been much better at 5 TD and 2 INT. Should be 6-1, but a easy TD was dropped in the end zone (by Jefferson) and an INT went off of a Vikings receiver's hands right to a defender.
I'm feeling fine about McCarthy's progress as a QB, just very concerned about him staying on the field.
My bigger concerns are the All Pro Center we signed has had at least 2 concussions this year. He might be done, and our outstanding Left Tackle who can't seem to come back from major knee surgery.

Bad teams should get worse draft picks instead of better draft picks. Instead have their cap space increased or allow for dead cap to not count. Giving these teams high draft picks isn’t the answer.

you never have that feeling watching the Bears. they have a +21 turnover differential -- easily the best in the NFL -- and that's the primary reason why they are in the playoffs. under Johnson they are efficient and make minimal mistakes, which is something that hadn't been the case in years.
i stand by what i said -- Detroit sorely misses BJ and it shows. and if you hit me with injuries talk, whereas that's indeed valid, i'm simply going to remind you that every team has them at this point in the season. the Lions are not the same team without their offensive coordinator and the eye test bears that out.
he's in Chicago turning water into wine.
Campbell picked the wrong time to start being conservative on offense, but that game is mostly on Gibbs and Goff.
when you lose by 13 points to a team that pumps out 3 net passing yards in a life-or-death game, there is serious dysfunction in play
Everybody has injuries. Nobody has as many. And they had two Pro Bowl OL leave the team as well.
They miss Johnson but he's nowhere near the #1 reason they're out of the playoffs. Roster, head coach, injuries, schedule are all much bigger reasons.
On to next year.

Vikings were missing 3 All Pro offensive lineman, both tackles and the Center. Left guard is a rookie.
Oh yeah, QB's and undrafted rookie.
How much better has Caleb been with a good offensive line this year?
I was only referring to the Lions challenges. Congrats to the Vikings on beating them. The Vikings offensive line stunk too. Did they give up 7 sacks?
i haven't watched every Vikes game, but i have seen McCarthy play in a few of them. i've witnessed glimpses -- both good and bad. as it stands, he has thrown more picks than tuh-dees and that's not sustainable -- regardless of the o-line situation. perhaps that will change in year 2 as a starter, which is a role i assume he will have a chance to retain. a healthy, competent offensive line means everything. if he hasn't had it this season, hopefully he gets it in the next
btw, first two years as a starter:
Josh Allen - 30 TD, 21 INT
Caleb - 43 TD, 12 INT
here's my unbiased take on CW. i'm happy with him as we near the end of year 2, but he does have a penchant for making easy plays look hard, and vice versa. i'd like to see more consistency. but regardless of what has or has not transpired in a particular game, he has shown that he possesses the "it" factor because he has driven the team down the field and won a lot of close games this season. his 4th down TD throw with :28 left and then the dime to DJ Moore in OT last week against the Pack are prime examples.
Suspensions are way to low for assaults on fans

Yes, 7 sacks.
Announcers couldn't have been more biased.
Vikings leading in first half, with possession of the ball and less than 3 minutes until halftime.
Announcers; "Lions have time to score twice before half and take the lead, then they receive 2nd half kickoff".
REALLY? How did that work out for you?
Well nobody roots for spoilers, the Vikings played out of their minds to be a spoiler
Detroit had everything to lose and Minny had nothing to lose except a higher spot in the draft
Congrats on the win regardless.
I thought "everybody roots for the underdog"?
Announcers are sure different than they used to be.
In my opinion, not in a good way.
Thanks, this is as close as I have ever come to hoping for a loss. Vikings (again) need offensive line help. Higher draft picks couldn't hurt.
I just can't root for them to lose.
Bad teams should get worse draft picks instead of better draft picks. Instead have their cap space increased or allow for dead cap to not count. Giving these teams high draft picks isn’t the answer.
