The Central States Numismatic Society show is held each Spring at the Schaumburg, Illinois Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center. It is a beautiful venue with plenty of free parking.
I left home at 6:20 AM on Wednesday. After a few minutes I went through the Hardee's drive thru for breakfast. I pushed hard only stopping for gas and a few rest breaks. I arrived in the Chicago area just in time for rush hour. I arrived at my hotel at 5:20. I quickly checked in and drove to the Rose Garden Cafe for dinner. I had the chicken and rice soup, chargrilled pork chops (3) , baked potato and rolls. All for $16.95.
I arrived at the show on Thursday at 9:10. I quickly got my badge and found a seat to wait for opening time. There was a large crowd waiting to enter at 10 AM. I first went to Great Collections booth to drop off 3 coins for auction. I next went to David Kahn's booth. It was very good to see him back at a show. I quickly saw that he had an 1839 Bust Half Dollar in PCGS AU 58. I have been looking for one of those for 3 years. I had brought 2 coins to sell to David. We very quickly arrived at a deal. I had probably not been at the show for 10 minutes and had already bought a coin. I believe that is the fastest ever that I have made a deal! I next dropped off 3 coins for Messy desk to image.
I then started at aisle 100 for a tour of the bourse floor. I saw a Wass, Molitor & Co. 1855 $50 in PCGS holders at two different tables. I have wanted one of those for decades but now they are about out of reach. I saw a 1904 $20 in PCGS 64+ PL with CAC sticker. The obverse had a few contact marks as expected but the reverse was almost flawless. It was drop dead beautiful! It was priced very strong at $14,500 but where are you going to find another. One dealer had 8 1904 $20's in PCGS 62 in old green holders. He was wanting $3400 each. I said hello to Kenneth Goldman.
I saw one young collector that was very happy about a very nice $1000 FRN that he had just bought. The concession stand had hot dogs for $8 and soft drinks for $4. At mid-day, I went upstairs to look at a few lots in the Heritage auction.
At about 3:30 the line at the PCGS booth was much shorter. I had brought along a coin that I had won at the FUN auction. I could not enter it in my inventory because the previous owner had not deleted it from their set. The guy at PCGS got it released in about a minute. Thanks, PCGS.
After that I went back to the Rose Garden Cafe for dinner. I had the chicken and rice soup, New York steak and jumbo shrimp, baked potato and rolls. All for $18.95.
On Friday I got to the show at 10:35. I started on another pass of the floor. I picked up a free 2015-D CSNS 86th Anniversary " Celebrate Nebraska " Quarter. There seemed to be a lot of action on the floor, but I did not see much gold or silver being sold. I do not remember seeing any super outstanding coins at this show. I saw an 1859 $10 in PCGS AU 58+ with CAC sticker it was priced at $22,500. It sold in a Stack's auction 3 years ago for $18,000. It is a rare coin, but I did not really like it.
I like viewing the exhibits at shows, but they were almost nonexistent at this show. At the end of the day, I was tired and just went through a fast- food drive through for dinner.
I left the hotel and headed for home at 7:25 AM. It seemed like a much tougher drive home. I arrived home at 6:20.
The show has grown in the last few years. I had a great time and hope to be back next year.

Great report - I like all shows in Schaumburg. That price for a 1904 DE seems nuts to me but I think it is very difficult to know how to price in a PL designation in gold coins. Most I have seen have the negative of highly visible hairlines and other marks offsetting the positive of the contrast between fields and devices.
I'm impressed by the prices you are paying at the Rose Garden Cafe. $18.95 for soup, steak, jumbo shrimp and rolls? I think I paid almost that much today for a salad.

Economical trip and show report. Hopefully you got good MPG to boot.

Nice write up. Sounded like a 'full' trip. I am kind of the opposite on the dinners - I dinner splurge on trips.
Just kind of part of the trip (and cost!). It read like a lengthy drive. This time I did something I don't recall doing before - flew in to show in the early AM and out in the late PM. So no dinner splurge but a long long day.

The food at the Rose Garden Cafe is always very good. They have a very extensive menu. I have eaten there for 12 years when I am in the area.
