Better than mine which is in an undeserving NGC AU-50 holder, but I hate to tell you what I paid for it 50 years ago. It’s an S-11c.

I could complete it if you have a spare chain cent laying around!

Same as bIll, I have a 50 also, but your coin is nicer IMO. I didnt buy mine back in Bill Jones days, maybe 5-6 years ago, was around 36k for reference.

I don't have a font large enough for the "WOW" I want to write and a double "WOW" for the rest of your gorgeous collection. I really enjoyed viewing it. Thank you!!

Thanks for all the positive comments. I picked it up for 29K which I think was a reasonable price. Unfortunately, finding a 1793 Chain in a condition that would fit in nicely with the rest of the set is going to be well above the level I would be able to pay. :)

A nice chain under $100k seems a challenge. I’ve been looking for some time.

  • Beautiful coin. Nice strike. I love looking at coins like this one.
Is the EAC grade your grade or was it graded by others?
While I know EAC Folks are tough graders, there sure is a lot of coin there for a VF30.

    CopperLad,

I agree with the EAC grade. As stated in one of the auction descriptions for this coin in the past: "This is one of those unusual situations where just about everyone agrees on the grade. Tom Reynolds, Bill Noyes, Bob Grellman, Dan Holmes, and Mark Borckardt all grade this specimen VF30, while Walter Husak preferred VF35."

It is very true that EAC folks and the TPGs grade very differently, but both are important to the hobby in their own way. The PCGS pop report for this PCGS# shows only one example graded higher.

That is a great cent. Attractive, nice color, few marks, great provenance. I would keep it for myself n spite of having filled that hole. Thanks for sharing!

That is the earliest die state S-277 I have seen, with a perfect 13th star. Remember this is the die pair of the sunken die 12- star variety.

Keep your head down and your ears and eyes open. One day you will find one that will fit and you will have no choice but to buy it! Can’t wait to see the finished set. 🙀

    Wow, I love it.
    I see a 35-40 here imho.
The hosts grade of AU53......ummm is bewildering to me, so nice reading you agree with the above mentioned EAC grade of VF30, that said, the grade is totally irrelevant on this one, you scored big time, and I'd be proud to own it, congrats!
