February Pickups...

I will lead off with a 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle Rookie SGC-7.
I was looking at two (2) high end 1951 Bowman Mantle RCs in Heritage Auctions: one in the recently completed January Heritage Auction (SGC-7) and a second in the current Heritage Platinum Night Auction (SGC-7.5). Even though the 7.5 had a couple accolades (MBA-Gold and PWCC-E)...I chose the 7. Having worked at the local newspaper printing press room before attending college...I became sensitive to inks not aligning perfectly creating a ghost image. The 7.5 has this ghost image in the form of a magenta color around the bat, cap, and NY insignia on the cap. If you could zoom in...the magenta color shows up around his mouth/teeth on the 7.5 as well, all not present on the 7. The better registration won out for me...and I bid successfully on the 7. Here are the two (2) cards:

Got a few more for my Steelers collection. Getting so close to finishing my 1950 to 1989 Steelers collection.
A group of New York Yankees TriFolds, all featuring the Commerce Comet…

Won these 4 at Heritage. They had a beautiful ‘52 Bowman set break. Really excited to get the Berra as every 8 I find the ask has been way over VCP and this was high on my want list.

Brad…
Those ‘52 Bowman cards are beautiful! Very high end….congrats!
My last few PSA subs I'll ever/do for a LONG time are winding their way through now. These are from the November special and some of the highlights. Not a bad set of grades. Almost all were 7-9s.
And the fun one:

Cool Lee. Like the photo and did not realize there was a variation. Also have some Os and Cubs 80s cards.

Been wanting a nice copy of this card for a while. Came yesterday, very nice example IMO:
The Bobby Orr RC present very well with the dead centering...
Some back …. Loved the auto list in 2024 Ginter … a Griffey and a few to close out the 7 wonders set I build each year.

opened a 87 donruss set and got real good results.
Added this to my HOF RC Collection.
How much did it sale for is one of the funniest and most ignorant things I've ever heard.
The centering is off the charts on this card. Congrats.
Got these signed at a convention in November. Just got them back.
George seemed very solid for his new grade
Some shiny stuff from 1994 .
There's still only one 10 of this card, So settling for a 9. The 1987 ProCards Gastonia Rangers set was hugely sought after in the 90's as it contains the first cards of 2 superstars of the day "Juan Gone" and "Slamming Sammy Sosa".
First "Card", albeit a post card of HOFer Rod Langway. From the 1978-79 Canadiens Postcards Set. Pre-dates his RC by 2 years. Cheap card, but not always easy to find.
After a long 4-month journey from the original purchase date, with two trips to PSA, to today's mail, this beauty is finally home:

You win the month! Unless some posts a 1914 Cracker Jack Cobb or similar. BTW I agree on the registration. The 7.5 look like a standard def TV and the 7 look like like HiRes 2160P (2k)
It's the singer not the song - Peter Townshend (1972)
This was gift this past week from a buddy I've had since the 1st grade:

Beautiful Feller and a great reminder of a life long friend. Congrats.
Last time I'll post this lame attempt of humor, since I did this when I picked up his All-Star card. Oh baby you, you got what I need, but you say he's just a ....

Beautiful Bobs.
Always in the market for game used kinesiology tape and smelly socks.
@mintonlypls gorgeous Mantle. Just out of curiosity, how much more did the 7.5 sell for than your 7?
Brian
7.5 is still up for bidding…ends February 22.
Just picked up a Peyton Manning RC, not sure I like the corners on the left side after getting it in hand.

As a Yankees fan, I see enough of Gunnar Henderson already! That guy seems to save his best games for us! Sick of him already!
(It’s a great pair of cards, though, and he’s a star already. Nice Harper, too.)

I wouldn't worry too much. Os played the Yankees very well last year but dont want to play the game of signing the best available players or trading for them. They are more interested in winning best farm system awards or getting medals for getting the most value for above average but not spectacular players. Elias wants to win the smartest guy in the room award but seems less interested in a title.
This Os team may be the tighest most unrelaxed playoff team I have ever seen. Hope it changes.
Yankees have a little more of an open checkbook when there is an opportunity to acquire talent. Os have a checkbook inside a safe inside a safe inside a safe. Even now that they have an owner willing to spend.
I would love to get more Gunnar cards but think he will be playing for the Yankees, Dodgers or Mets in 4 years.
Sincerely,
Frustrated Os Fan
Also got this for luck for tomorrow
Picked this one up from the last Heritage Auction. Still waiting on delivery.
Big Cat sighting! All time great Expo.
High66...
Nice pickup...always like the value at 8.5!
Thanks Monte
Really been leaning towards the half grades lately when feasible.
Congrats on the 51. Beautiful card!
Got a binder to view these and seeing them that way made me buy 3 more. 1 on the way.
Some more shiny stuff from 1994

A few more additions to the Football HOF set...

Those Look Pretty Cool Encapsulated in Acrylic...🏈👍
Some more 51 Bowman football. All from the Pittsburgh Steelers Football Club which wasn't intentional. Centering not great on a couple but like the color.
Despite the fact that I don’t really like the traditional version, I do have that card pairing already. However, despite hearing about the existence of a ‘corrected’ version before and knowing they were out there, I had never seen one of these before. So, I pounced.
There are a total of three of these on the PSA population report and this ‘Mickie’ - with its grade of Authentic - is the lowest graded of the three.

Love the yellow bordered 67's
This Carter rookie is usually very O/C, at least in the PSA 7 range I was looking at. Found this better example for my PSA showcase..

Went to my LCS on Thursday to buy this.

While there, the owner informed me that he'd just bought a huge collection that he was still working through. I picked a bunch of items that were already out for sale and told him to come up with a price and I'd be back on Friday. This is what I ended up with from that collection so far. Junk era is my crack.

There was a nice raw set run from 1964-early 80s in this collection, too, and we've only just begun negotiations on price for one or more of those. I'm headed back this afternoon to see what else he's set out that I have to have. Lol
