Heritage: The Towers Collection Part II - A veritable smorgasbord of early halves - CBH's galore!

GoldbullyGoldbully Posts: 17,513 ✭✭✭✭✭

Just going through the catalogue and viewing the lots online is like watching high class coin porn.
There are so many of the CBH's that I would love to own, but alas most are out of reach for me right now.
Anyone considering some of these early halves? Only 783 lots to look through!
@drddm ? 😉

I looked through about 110 lots closely. I had paired my list down from the internet prior to attending the show. Should be an interesting session.

I'm tracking 150 lots, will pair down tomorrow. Hopefully no more than 25 prospects.

I went to FUN but didn’t have a chance to do lot viewing. Wish I did because I’m tracking a lot of CBH’s too.

    👀

Some of the lots were not what I expected in both directions.

    Really enjoyed lot viewing

I bid on five, all at min. except for one.

Good luck to all that are bidding.

What a fun sale! Thoroughly enjoyed it. Some very tough coins sold tonight for attractive prices.

I purchased 5 dates which compleated the CBH portion of my 50c date collection. I was the under bidder on the 1796.

The 1796 was a fantastic coin! Whoever won that should be damn proud to own her.

I also got some and lost some. Overpaid on a couple and probably got a slight bargain on one or two. Lot viewing really paid off, but I think I should have looked at more. There were a few more bargains in there but I didn't want to bid if I hadn't looked.

**5 Coins I wish I would've clicked bid on one more time **

    1. Lot #3265 1823 O-102 Patched 3 R.4 PCGS AU58 - This coin is flawless in hand outside of a small staple scratch on the reverse above the denomination. Very underrated coin. I was expecting $7,500.

    2. Lot #3374 1827 O-116a R.5 MS63 - Finest known coin for this die state (the 116 is not easy, either). Stunning coin that Sheridan Downey sold to Meyer in 1989. Was expecting $5,500.

    3. Lot #3383 1827 O-122 R.5 AU50 - Eye appeal and R5 usually don't go in the same sentence. This coin is beautiful and exactly the look CBH collectors want. Was expecting $3,000+++.

    4. Lot #3407 1827 O-145 R.5 AU55 - I made the comment last night to a group of bidders that I ALWAYS am underbidder on R5 coins. Another beautiful R.5 that has a scant population of 3 higher than 55, that was a touch on the underwhelming side in the luster department. Still a wonderful coin I wish I owned. Was expecting $4,000.

    5. Lot #3418 1828 O-107a R.6+ AU53 - I have only seen this die state once in my life. It is very underrated and hard to come across. I personally graded it an AU50. No matter. I wanted it and was expecting to pay $1,500+++. Alas, by this point in the sale, I was bidding on my phone and cooking an annoyed wife dinner at 7ish o'clock. My phone didn't register the bid, and it went for $780.00 -_-

Is there an unknown "you suck award" ??? Whoever the winner of these coins is, you're a bum!

Just kidding and congratulations on some keepers.

Well no competition from me. When I see R5 (or higher) I just move on to the next one. :)
But you know I am not a variety type. ;)
I did get a 'clasher' as it was a decent upgrade to a VF30 for the date. So maybe a little dabble into the variety thing. :o

I won on a couple. Lost on many more. Prices for the things I was watching/bidding on were strong. I helped the seller as much as I could.

Got the Half winnings in hand this (Thursday) morning (auction ended Sunday). Great job by Heritage to get them to me that quickly and also considering that Monday was a holiday. Also, look as good to me at home as I recall (and wrote down) they did in the sometimes funky auction lot viewing room. :)
