Did you guys get it all figured out? Seems like we have a solid team here.

Last night, we sat on edge while watching the fire move directly towards our area. The mandatory evacuations order was declared a short distance from our home. My wife packed up a bunch of stuff for a quick getaway and we checked the news until around midnight when we felt is was safe to sleep. This morning the fire has moved away in the opposite direction towards Brentwood. The winds are expected to increase later. Anxious times around here. Will keep you guys posted.

That must be brutal the uncertainty of it all, with whatever way the winds shift. In any event you and your wife are doing it the right way with packing up in advance, just in case for a quick getaway. I'm sure that entails all your personal things such as paper financial records, irreplaceable photos, computers, etc, and hopefully you've got room in the car for the cards and coins.

A quick word about safes. I'm not an expert on it, but I think that "fire-proof" or "fire-resistant" home safes if you have one, simply aren't completely effective in a massive fire such as this. Mostly this sort of safe helps protect against smoke damage. I may be wrong about that, but in any event, it might be good to find room in the car for the cards and cards. Have all that packed up and ready to go as well.

Steve, I wish it were so easy. We have things in order for a quick escape. Valuables included. I'm leaving the 90's stuff behind, though. If the looters want shiny junk cards, they're welcome to it. ;)

One last thought, imagine being so brainwashed by right wing politics that your first thought about this fire is to blame immigrants for it, as coolstanley did, that's pathetic. You go right ahead and believe everything your conman cult leader tells you, I'll stick to doing the research myself and listening to the scientists and meteorologists. It's sad what this country has become and that many of you are a part of it. Oh and @Bullsitter, no I do not have an EV, can't afford one at the moment. Now take care, and I wish everyone the best on your journey through life.

We got some real heavy winds here today in Central Cal. I think we only get these winds this time of year as we rarely get much wind like we mostly only get rain in the late fall and winter months.

I had a couple friends in Westlake village get evacuated a couple days ago. Back home today but fires are only a mile away. Downwind so packed and ready to roll. Stay safe. And I agree about politics here. There’s no need to hear anyone’s opinion on politics. Thinly veiled or otherwise.

It's sad because I really care about this place and wanted it to have the funnest atmosphere possible, but I just can't be around people that support this crap, a man that incited an insurrection on the Capitol that resulted in the deaths of five police officers. How anyone could continue to support Trump after January 6th is beyond me, and it's sickening that he calls the rioters "hostages" and wants to pardon them. If you voted for this crap, don't ever call yourself a Patriot again. Before you ban me moderator, I ask that you please remove the two DD threads at the top of the page on the sports forum, I don't want my name up at the top of a MAGA cult forum.

Stay safe and best of luck to all of you out in California, all we can do is wish you the very best.

    I agree with you perdog.
I just can't stand when they spew lies and have no facts. When they get their news from people that get paid from telling lies instead of FACTS. Cities are burning and people are dying and I am hearing how bad Trump is. HOW F ing CRAZY

  • The fires are only listed as 11% and 15% contained, and it's been three days.
I got to wonder how long this continues. I hope it is just burning hills now and not residences.

Please no more political talk. I opened this thread to create awareness to what the folks in California are going through right now. Keep those like @ELMagoStrikeZone and thousands of others in that area in your thoughts and prayers. I don't know too many folks in California but the few I do know I have reached out to them to check on their welfare and to just be a voice of support for them at this stressful time in their lives. Please no more divisive political statements, keep them for another time and place. Thank you.

Good they canceled horse racing for the weekend in Los Angeles. But the horses have no choice but to breath the low quality air surrounding Santa Anita, as do all the other animals.

I just googled "Los Angeles weather", hoping there would be a nice rain coming to help put out this fire. Sadly an almost zero probability of rain at least thru next Saturday.

I forget the time of the year when heavy rains do sometimes hit the area, and mudslides can occur. I think it may be in the Spring, not sure. But another big problem coming is so many trees and vegetation will be lost in this fire, thus their dead roots won't be absorbing the rain water, meaning the probability of increased mudslides.

You are right about the mud slides. Just checked online and it says the rainy season typically begins Oct. until April.

  • Santa ana winds means no rain this rainy season.

I never heard that before. I think we have had 2 or 3 halfway decent days of rain day since Oct. We have had no rain for at least the last couple weeks and no rain expected in the next week or so. I'm in the very northern part of Central Cal.

  • I haven't gotten any rain and usually it rains a lot in October and December.

Why is DD's crap construed as political crap to all of us? Just call it the way it is - DD is a nut and is causing problems!

I was thinking about what I would grab from my house if I only had like 5 minutes. Picture albums, important documents, etc of course. When it comes to sports cards, collectibles and memorabilia - most of these are irreplaceable but in the big picture there are so many things that are more valuable than these and more valuable than money. If each of us can learn something from this, it is to organize your belongings and documents and prepare how to keep your family safe. What if you only had 5 minutes?

It's a shame because I really loved this place, wanted to contribute to it, but I can't be around MAGA. Look at this MAGA parade that happened back on Halloween, Trump supporters are depicting Kamala Harris in slave chains, being walked behind a golf cart with Trump driving it, the MAGA cult is full of bigots, and racists, and this is who you choose to stand with if you support Trump, bigots and racists, you stand right alongside them. Like I said before, history will look kindly upon you all. That's all folks.

    YOU ARE ONE SICK MOTHER.

Very strange how people like you do not get removed but I once said something about the Nuns at the Dodgers games you know the one's with the LG_ _ and I was issued a warning and was told no more warning just instant removal. I guess it must be the way you lean.

I watched a video clip on IG last night of a woman driving and trying to flee the area while the fires were closing in quickly. Her route required her to drive into a dark tunnel and when she exited on the other end it looked absolutely terrifying, almost like what you would picture hell to look like.

To all of our members here that live in that area, please be safe and don't cut it too close.

As a victim of the Paradise Campfire that wiped my town off the map with our home and everything in it. I can tell you first hand how much losing your home can rock your world. These wild fires can move VERY rapidly as you can clearly see from watching the news. The biggest problem we have here is mismanagement. There should be fire breaks at least around cities and populated areas from these fires. No lessons learned from the campfire in Paradise that took 85+ lives and burned 85% of the town to the ground.
My heart goes out to the good people of the Los Angeles area.

Sorry to hear about your lost and your terrible experience. Have they rebuilt in that area yet?

I remember many old TV shows and or movies that showed them doing forest management and how important it was. I think there was several episodes of Lassie that had forest management. Not sure but I thought it was because of all the tree huggers.

I have an artist show friend and a couple other long term friends that are out there and on evac standby, been a stressful week for all of them and I'm glad none of them have had to bounce despite stuff being across the street and having bugout bags ready to go. Prayers for everyone there, fire is no joke.
