I have been watching on tv this afternoon these apocalyptic like fires sweeping southern California, it looks very scary. Please keep the folks in harm's way in your thoughts and prayers.

I've been flipping between WGN & News Nation... It's Pretty Damn Scary...🔥🔥🔥
It's a terrible situation, hopefully they get it squared away as soon as possible.
I've seen many places on TV, places where memories exist from past experiences and now these places are gone. I've seen familiar faces of people who are coping with this disaster. The Pacific Palisades community has been virtually destroyed. The place where I once attended high school is also severely damaged. Where we live we are currently safe, but all around us is smoke and the smell of fire. This is a sadly historic event here. A year ago we were worrying about floods and biblical rain. Absolutely nuts.
Bundalay, sahvay.
Mayor of LA cut the fire department by 17.6 million - causing not enough fire fighters to handle the initial situation. Now out of control, Who could've saw that happening??????????
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
There are a few fires also burning in No. Cal. which are being dealt with.
The So. Cal. fires are horrible and devastating to countless people and families. Fire season in California is 12 months, 365 days a year. You can be assured that after the current fires are extinguished mother nature will unleash round two, namely winter storms that will bring significant rain in short periods of time resulting in floods, mudslides and further destruction.
Oh, and do not forget the ever present disgusting people who will descend upon the burned out areas to begin looting everything in sight (there are already reports of this happening).
I heard NOBU in Malibu is gone. Sad day for Sushi lovers.
Watching it on TV from Canada. Hope they get this fire under control and save as many people/pets/animals as they can.
NFL: Buffalo Bills & Green Bay Packers
Like so many other storefronts hosting dispensaries, there will always be plenty of sushi. We shall not suffer in vain.
Bundalay, sahvay.
My family all in Cape Cod Mass. call me when they see the fires on TV and always ask if the fires are near me. I live in Central Cal. we seem always to be very lucky as the fires most always are in Northern Cal or Southern Cal.
Reported that a number of Hollywood stars homes have been burnt down.
I guess possibly some sports stars homes mixed in with that.
It is reported that NBA player Khawi Leonard’s home burned down in the fire.
I joke but it’s terrible. Have a lot of friends and coworkers who are affected. Winds were 80-100mph up and down the coast. Lots of iconic places lost. Moonshadows. The place where Paul Walker left before he died in the wreck. Gone. Lots of neighborhoods up the coast there.
First off, condolences to everyone affected by this tragedy, if you're in the area you need to listen to evacuation orders, and if you see fire approaching or smell smoke, pack up and get out of there as fast as possible and remember that breathing the smoke in can kill you, so get out fast. Second of all, people need to stop listening to what politicians have to say about this and they need to listen to the climate scientists that have dedicated their lives to the study of the climate, these are people that have gone through years of college and earned degrees in this stuff, they're out there everyday conducting tests. I'm sorry to have to say it, but this crap is only going to get worse. That's all I'm going to say because I don't want the conversation to turn into something else. Have a great day.
My goodness this is terrible. Hoping people evacuated. stuff can be replaced, people cannot.
I guess I will take the below freezing temps and occasional blizzard over the threat of fires
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Report I saw said he missed game to be with family who had evacuated. Whatever that even means.
I messed around on Google and found this house he allegedly bought in 2018. Nice little shack! It's down in San Diego area so not sure if he helicopters to games or has another place in LA or what!?
Interestingly it appears same buyer bought house next door a year after buying above. So maybe he has two small castles down there!?
Whatever the case best wishes to everybody affected!
Another example of not taking care of the taxpayers. 😞
Billy Crystal, long time Yankees fan, his house burnt down.
Nice try guys.
Has anyone considered this to be terrorism yet? Thousands of terrorists have been walking across open borders..
Terry Bradshaw was AMAZING!!
Ignore list -Basebal21
Who knows what set off the fires, could be downed power lines, could be arson, could be people burning stuff, but one thing is for sure, climate change isn't helping matters, it makes these fires much worse. You can't keep continually pumping Fossil Fuel into Earth's atmosphere, abusing the planet, and expect nothing to happen. One day, the crap is really going to hit the fan, and people are going to look back and say, damn, why didn't we listen to the scientists? Mark my words. That's my final say on this, have a great day.
I know who I'd be looking at first.
.
.
I mean, if that isn't the face of a guilty man...
.
oh boy. here we go.
thread will be closed soon...
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
I read where they caught some homeless people setting fires as well
Could be one or the other or both.
This is more rational way of thinking than climate change lol
There have been wildfires out there forever, this one is worst because of high winds and some things about the gov not following through on getting fresh water into that area idk
I'm done with t It's sad that this place has become so brainwashed by right wing politicians, people here no longer trust science, doctors, judges, all they trust is him. It's pathetic. > @craig44 said:
I'm done with the subject, if people would rather listen to politicians about the future of the climate rather than scientists, be my guest.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lemme guess, @Neanderthal your quiting again!!!!
This is the SPORTS TALK forum, not the political talk forum.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
I heard one reporter say that they believe one fire started in someone's back yard. The storm winds have been going on in Southern Cal. probably before any of us were born. This happens every year. I am living in Cal. right now and this state is so screwed up and have everything backwards. It is mostly neglect and stupidity. Year after there is drought and yet they insist of not saving any water and just letting it go into the ocean. Refuse to do forest management like they did until the tree huggers came along. Taking $$ away from fire services and giving nonlegal citizens everything under the sun which the state can not afford.
I could go on and on and on but I don't want to scare and upset anybody that might get easily offended as that is why this state is so messed up.
Because we are a sports talk forum, yes, they've cancelled NBA & NHL games as well as moving the Rams-Vikings from SoFi to Glendale, AZ next Monday.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, we experienced a situation yesterday where we helped give guidance by phone to a close friend who was prevented from entering her property because of the Kenneth Fire in Calabasas, which eventually was controlled. While we were trying to remain calm during an urgent time, we also received a phone notification about a countywide Evacuation Order which turned out to be a "mistake". I darn near crapped my pants while instantly thinking about what to save. A short time later they issued a retraction/apology. Ooops.
To speculate about the causes of this immense tragedy only fuels the despair many of us feel, even while not needing to pack up our belongings and run. Nature played a huge role in this, and at the moment, it still does. Whether or not human activity or a lack thereof has contributed to this mess, we should be aware of just how fragile and vulnerable we truly are.
Bundalay, sahvay.
It's a horrific situation
Im not even a little bit surprised over the neglect and stupidity part or the mismanagement of where funding should go.
It's disgusting and tragic
Hope your family and friends are ok out there
This thread was doomed long before DD made an appearance.

Thank you perkdog.
I am located in Central Cal. but only about maybe 15 min. drive to Northern Cal. county line { Santa Clara County ) which is where San Jose is located. As I recently stated in another post it seems that Central Cal. seems to be very lucky as I have never seen or heard of any major events here as things seem to happen in either Northern or Southern Cal.
I think that the problem is maybe because of the area of the Southern Cal fires is that they are right on the ocean. My bet is that the winds are coming in hard off of the ocean and running up the hills.
I just hope there will be major change here in Cal because they are putting too many people's lives at risk.
At a bare minimum hopefully lessons will be learned, obviously wildfires are a thing out there regardless but the better prepared the state gets won't hurt that's for sure.
Stay safe!

Do you own an EV?
What kind and how long have you been driving it?
Glad you are safe!
"I just hope there will be major change here in Cal because they are putting too many people's lives at risk."
I would agree that finally there will be major change in California. All for the good.
to all of the Cali brethren (elmago, pdoi, sanction, and anyone else i missed), all the best
thoughts & prayers are with you
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
The Santa Ana winds do not evolve from the ocean. They push offshore out over the ocean. The complexity of conditions causing the effects of 80 to 100 MPH winds which pushed the fire towards the ocean ultimately burned structures that were right along the long stretch of shoreline from Santa Monica to Malibu on Pacific Coast Highway. A high pressure system over the Pacific combined with a low pressure winter storm near the Rockies created a wind tunnel from north to south and it was by some accounts, one of the fiercest wind events ever recorded. When they predicted it in advance, we were warned about hurricane force winds. They weren't wrong.
P.S. Thank you galaxy27.
Bundalay, sahvay.
Seems the main fire started because of the high winds started sparking the electrical lines but then there's idiots like this who don't help the situation also:
"Police Arrest Arson Suspect Behind Massive New California Fire"
BREAKING: @KFIAM640 @DebraMark1 says this man was arrested for apparently starting fires in Woodland Hills area. We are awaiting confirmation. Note the possible torch on hood of car.

With respect to winds that appear in California and contribute to the wildfires, in both So. Cal. and in No. Cal. there are times where the winds blow from east to west and there are times when winds blow from west to east (from the Pacific Ocean into California).
The winds that blow west to east come in from the Pacific and are mostly cool and moist.
The winds that blow from east to west are typically warm/hot and very dry (coming in from the Great Basin in the Western US and the areas surrounding the Great Basin. When these winds come into California over the Sierras and the mountains to the west of the So. Cal. basin they descend from mountain tops that are 10K to 14K tall. As they descend they pick up speed (i.e. up to 100 mph). These dry, high speed winds come through large parts of California whose trees, bushes, grasses and other plant life are many times extremely dry and are extremely dense.
The combination of the above factors creates conditions to where any spark or small flame (accidental, intentional, lightning strike, etc.) can cause a fire that can quickly spread. High speed, dry winds can blow hot embers miles away from the point of origin.
As a result California has always been subject to the types of fires that are currently raging through So. Cal. When these fires are located in remote areas there is little damage to humans and their homes and possessions. When these fires are located in areas where millions of people are living you have situations like So. Cal. is now experiencing.
I remember the Oakland Hills fire in Ocotober, 1991. That fire was a huge disaster for the Oakland - Berkeley Hills.
A few years ago I was driving on the freeway heading back to my hometown and I had a panoramic view of the hills located in my community. It was a hot and dry day. I saw a plume of smoke rising from the hill tops and went Oh No!!!. I looked closer and realized that the smoke was coming from hills located in an open space adjacent to the housing development where I live. The fire department/first responders reacted immediately and sent fire trucks up into the open space, They located the fire and extinguished it before it expanded into something that would be all over the news. Thank God for them and their quick response. I understand that the fire was started in a homeless encampment located up in the open space.
I know many people who live and work in So. Cal. I hope that they are all safe and that they are not effected by the fires currently burning there.
Ironically the banned Hydrant lived in that area. Hope he's ok.
The Santa Anita race track finally cancelled racing for Friday. About time. Reports state people around the track are wearing masks in the midst of poor air quality. But no mention of the poor air quality and it's affect on the 1800 horses stabled there. Guess they would have a hard time keeping a N95 mask on a horse.😆🐎
Let's hope the equines remain safe. But the air pollution can't be good for them either.
Thats nonsense
I Totally Get what Landry is saying/typing...
Stop...

Look Around...And Be Thankful for what you have...
I'm 265 miles from Los Angeles and today there were some ashes falling onto my car and a very strong smell of the smoke.
Network news last night stated only 8% containment.
Are we going to stop believing what scientists tell us now? Are we going to stop believing what meteorologists tell us now? It's pathetic how brainwashed some of you have allowed yourselves to become from right wing politics, it's honestly the reason that I don't post over anymore. That's the last thing I'm ever going to say over here, have a nice life everyone.
Neanderthal
.
I was hoping to get an answer as I'm looking to purchase one.
One last thought, imagine being so brainwashed by right wing politics that your first thought about this fire is to blame immigrants for it, as coolstanley did, that's pathetic. You go right ahead and believe everything your conman cult leader tells you, I'll stick to doing the research myself and listening to the scientists and meteorologists. It's sad what this country has become and that many of you are a part of it. Oh and @Bullsitter, no I do not have an EV, can't afford one at the moment. Now take care, and I wish everyone the best on your journey through life.
"My Last thing I'm going to say about this"
MmmmmmmnK 🙄
My man, just let it go already.
