My favorite additions in no particular order:
1920 Feriam Sidera (Reach for the Stars): Le Groupe des Cigognes by Paul Marcel Dammann. Le Groupe des Cigognes, also known as "The Flying Storks," included several American fighter pilots who served in WWI.
1917 Pacific Aero Club: Medal of Valor posthumously awarded to Lafayette Escadrille Pilot Douglas MacMonagle
Photo: Whiskey pinning Raoul Lufbery, as Douglas MacMonagle and Soda watches in the background with interest.
1840 American Anti-Slavery Society medal by W.H. Bridgens. Frederick Douglass & Susan B. Anthony were members. One of several examples known to exist.
1909 Abraham Lincoln "Preserve, Protect, Defend" gold-gilt medal, used as the obverse design for the Lincoln cent.

Interesting medals!
My son and his girlfriend went to Europe. I purchased two 20 Lira Gold. Coins to commemorate the trip. There was a falling out during the try so I give him his coin but kept her’s…
Time for some history.
In 1910 Portugal overthrew its monarchy and created the first republic. By all accounts the First Republic was a time of turmoil and inconsistent government. For all practical purposes the First Republic was a complete failure. In the 16 years the republic was around there 8 presidents and 45 ministries, inflation was rampant and government services barely functional.
The period following WWI were the most turbulent. With inflation stripping the value of the money so much that the coinage was worth significantly more as bullion than as money. Virtually all currency stopped circulating. Even the Casa de Moeda (Portuguese mint or House of Coin) held most of the coinage in the vaults (eventually selling the coins as silver in the 1930's).
The situation was so bad that you couldn't buy anything or give change as money didn't freely exchange.
In order to provide some normalcy the Casa De Moeda started releasing paper fractional currency.
There still wasn't enough money available that script also was printed, these didn't have the backing of the government but had local governments or institutions backing them.
Which leads us to today's coin.
Villa Nova De Gaia was founded as 2 separate towns, Gaia first (mid 13c). Then, a few decades later, there was e New Town (Vila Nova), and the two "merged" in 1834. Vila Nova de Gaia is famous for the port houses that line its side if the Douro river (the other side is Porto)
Gaia wanting to be different instead of script decided to issue ceramic coins.
There are in total 8 different coins, these 4 are the most common and sometimes available for a pretty rare coin.
They come in 1, 2, 4 and 10 centavos.
So my favorite is coins in Ceramic.
My current registry sets:
20th Century Type Set
Virtual DANSCO 7070
Slabbed IHC set - Missing the Anacs Slabbed coins
This is my favorite coin that I purchased in 2024
Mr_Spud
I like the second one down Colombo. It's all good 👍
I bought three comparatively consequential coins for my collection this year. I like them all, but I guess I'd call this one my favorite inasmuch as it's something I'd wanted an example of for a long time, and San Francisco is a special place for my wife and me. I've show-and-telled it here before a time or two already.
Love this commemorative.
On my box of 20 bucket list
BST: KindaNewish (3/21/21), WQuarterFreddie (3/30/21), Meltdown (4/6/21), DBSTrader2 (5/5/21) AKA- unclemonkey on Blow Out
My only US Newp of the year, reaquired after being in Doug Winters collection since I sold it to him in 2014.
Latin American Collection
In trying complete a gold CAC set of silver commems, I knew the Hawaiian would be a tough find with only four known. Thanks to The Commander for keeping me in mind when he came across this one:

Never mind…
30+ years coin shop experience (ret.) Coins, bullion, currency, scrap & interesting folks. Loved every minute!
This coin was a fun purchase. It is THE most worn 1873 NA Open3 with CAC approval. It's also in QDB's "Liberty Seated Silver Coins" as an example of the grade "AG3." It's now graded "Fair-2" with CAC approval.
This was a fun surprise coin just before my birthday. Nobody bid significantly above retail for this 55/54 overdate labeled as an 1855 normal date with 10 minutes left, so I picked this overdate with only an additional $5 bid. I was surprised to see that everyone else apparently had placed their maximum bids and no one apparently recognized the cherry.
It's now properly labeled as "1855/54." after PCGS assumed all costs to have this mistake corrected. So that it's clear, I cherry picked this 1855/54 overdate in a normal date holder and PCGS is now paying to have it relabeled, reholdered, and regraded for free. PCGS went the extra mile (beyond fair compensation) to provide this service for this particular coin free of cost. Thanks, PCGS!
Also, a shout out to @PCGS_Hy for handling the mislabeling problem on my coin and this other coin as well. I was initially shocked and upset over this initially and but I'm now very pleased with this outcome. Thanks!
I guess I was on a certain Indian theme this year. Just some of my purchases from this year. I had a very good year
I acquired some coins in 2024 that I like and also had some raw coins graded in 2024.
However, after reading this thread and seeing the amazing coins presented therein,................ I have decided to not post photos of any of the coins I acquired and/or had graded in 2024. They simply do not belong in a thread as cool as this one.
I really am attracted to the Koban shown by Lermish, the medal posted in the opening post of Mr_Columbo, the 1907 AU58+ Indian posted by Mr. Spud and the PANPAC 1$ posted by Mirabela.
I have been looking for an affordable example for 15 years and won this on Heritage Auctions. $700 + juice + shipping + taxes = $911.28
@SanctionII If you have new pieces, please share them! Every coin has a story, and all coins are interesting.
2024 was a BIG buying year:
“The thrill of the hunt never gets old”

@Copperindian That 1861 D is a beauty!
Here are a few I am very happy with:
"Look up, old boy, and see what you get." -William Bonney.
@Copperindian
Too many bangers to pass any on a Friday night
Very nice.
1796 BB-62/B-3 Bust Dollar -- The third one known and second finest among the three. Got some other truly great early dollars, but this one stands out for certain.
ONE Pick up and I haven't finished paying for it yet.
And a few more to finish out the year.
I'll let myself out. No need to shove.
"Brother, can you spare a dime?" (Especially a 1975 no S proof?)
2024 was a slow year. Think I only picked up 5 or 6 coins.
This one is definitely my favorite for the year. The eye appeal is just off the charts on this one. I like it better than my 64.
Closing out 2024 and moving into next year, I plan to pivot away from gold and concentrate on bust halves. I may keep an eye out for some southern branch gold along the way but my main focus will be busties. Here is the first one to arrive last week.
MY GOLD TYPE SET https://pcgs.com/setregistry/type-sets/complete-type-sets/gold-type-set-12-piece-circulation-strikes-1839-1933/publishedset/321940
This one is pretty cool. Definitely one of my favorite picks this year.

Two of my favorite ‘24 pick-ups, both in that “cool” 58+ grade….
WOW!!! Congrats on those amazing new pickups!

2024 was probably my most prolific year in numismatics. I purchased many, many new coins and paper currency notes, but here are a few of my favorites!
1855 large cent, slanted 55, PCGS MS64RB
1864 2 cent piece, PCGS MS63BN
1878 Morgan dollar, 8 Tailfeather, PCGS MS63
1917 Type 1 quarter, PCGS AU58FH
1921 High Relief Peace Dollar, PCGS AU58
1892 Barber Half, PCGS AU55
And a few currency notes that I had been wanting for a while...
1899 2 Dollar Silver Certificate, PMG 20
1899 5 Dollar "Chief" Silver Certificate, PMG 15
And even a few Obsoletes that have gotten me hooked on them...
1860's New Orleans, Louisiana Citizens Bank $100 note, PMG 55EPQ
1850's New Orleans, Louisiana Bank of Louisiana $100 note, PMG 64
MERRY CHRISTMAS, AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!

I didn't buy much this year. Prices (IMO) are ridiculously too high, but there was simply something about these two coins--both of which I "overpaid" for.

My first early $5. I have been almost exclusively collecting early $2.5 for the last 15 years. I think this coin will have me evolving/branching out.
Amazing!!!
Congrats on adding these two unbelievable coins to your toned bust half set!
Dave
I feel truly grateful to have acquired these pieces.
MS-66 CAC Mintage 5000
PR-68 Cam CAC Mintage 735
PR-65 Cam CAC Mintage 1097
MS-67+
PR-66 CAC
@OKbustchaser
Very cool 1832 bust. Love the doubling.
I've got plenty more favorites that aren't photographed sadly.
This Trade Dollar looks much better in person. The TrueView is completely inaccurate, in hand the coin has wonderful rainbow toning around the edges with plenty of bright purple.
Some of my favorites for 2024!
Dave
Mostly been picking up a particular Franklin Mint medal of a particular design. So far I have 8/550 of one type (Copper Nickel PL), 4/640 (Silver plated PL) of another type, and 4/25000 of the regular run. All in the original packaging.
TurtleCat Gold Dollars
I've been chasing an intact version of this GSA posterboard for years. Finally picked one up earlier this year.
The big upgrade to my 1983 Mint Set
1983-P MS66FS 5C
My favorite acquisition was this 1839 Gobrecht Dollar. I really wanted to acquire a nice 1793 Chain AMERI. Cent, but I quickly found out that a six figure sum can't do that any more in this market. I bought this instead for a good deal less. It's lead to a great deal of interesting and reward research, which I would like to make into an entertaining artcle to be published somewhere.
I also acquired my first Montgomery Confederate note. I don't know if I will get any more, but this got me started.
I purchased a little over an ounce of gold a long while back (years ago) and sold it at the more recent highs. Took the money and purchased a dream coin that came up for sale. For someone that has a small collecting budget like myself this is a big purchase. Buying a coin of this value will not happen very often in my collecting years/decades to come or maybe never again. The coin now resides in my bank vault with a few other of my favourite coins.
I only collect early milled 1 reales (Peru, Mexico, Guatemala, Bolivia, Jamaica and Colombia) so without question adding this 1760 Colombia 1 Real (14 to 15 examples known and only date possible for Colombia) is a big accomplishment.
Most examples are holed:
NFL: Buffalo Bills & Green Bay Packers
Mr_Columbo.
Since you requested I did pick up this Proof Walker (PF67) last January to upgrade my 1939 Proof Set.
How is that 1911 just a 62? So much better than that, IMO. Have you thought about resubmitting or crossing over?
"Brother, can you spare a dime?" (Especially a 1975 no S proof?)
An 1856 Flying Eagle, Snow 5. A rare variety with a centering dot on the reverse. Purchased from Rick Snow.
An 1871 Two Cent Piece, AU58+. Nice example.
