Do you think a banned member should ever be pardoned by popular vote of the members?

IMO, PCGS moderators should WISH to honor the requests of members if a certain number of them overwhelmingly voted to have certain banned members reinstated "conditionally." This could take place once a year say on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, April fools Day, Tax day, or the first day of summer. It could be limited to just one or several banned members.
I don't know all the banned ex-members but Rodger Burdett would be one I'd vote for in a heartbeat. I would not let a few members who are totally sour on any ex-member override the choice. Of course the bottom line would be the owners of CU and the person PCGS put in charge of it.

Sure, why not. I'm a big proponent of forgiveness. Besides, I'll probably be the one needing the help................AGAIN!! 🤣 😉
You come to my support, I come to your support. We're all on the same team here, right?
Disclaimer: I'm not a dealer, trader, grader, investor or professional numismatist. I'm just a hobbyist. (To protect me but mostly you! 🤣 )
Were you ever banned? I may be heading that way for calling out snowflakes. I will not do that again - for sure!
Sounds great. OTOH, if it's not our ban, or our forum, it's really not our forgiveness or pardon to give.
Or our parameters to set to determine who qualifies. I happen to think CU does a pretty decent job running and moderating, and they have shown flexibility on occasion when called for, so I wouldn't presume to tell them what to do with banned former members. YMMV. Good luck!!
Yes, I have been. I should be, but I'm not ashamed to admit it. There were some good guys here that came to my aid and support and pulled my dumb ass out of the fire!.... and I'll never forget that!

I would be in favor of such a plan. To err is human; to forgive, divine.
I took a quick look at @RogerB's last several comments and I didn't see anything that seemed ban-worthy. Of course, offending comments might have been deleted by the moderators.
One question is whether or not he would want to come back. I've heard that some banned members aren't interested in returning.
Depends on the transgression perhaps, although one would hope that the more egregious cases would not get support. Not sure it would be practical or worth dealing with were I the host.
A number of people have been pardoned, only to be banned a second time. And banning typically only follows many warnings, so the issue is how many warnings and bans need to be provided?
Also, some are non-repentant which seems to affect status as well. It's one thing to recognize and support the forums polices and another to actively argue against them.
Should we be able to vote members off the forum as well?
The Holidays with Bambino1 back around would sure be livelier.
Don’t know why the ban hammer came done on RWB. Agree, and disagree with some of his takes. Would welcome the opportunity to engage with him here should that somehow be made to happen.
No. If I recall correctly, PCGS does not typically ban accounts quickly or for a single, small transgression. Folks with those accounts generally earn their bans. The internet is a big place; they can find another home or simply come back as an alt, which I know you realize happens all the time.

It would work both ways. However, I doubt there would be any member hated by over 5% of the total membership. Using Roger as an example, no one knows what he did for sure and a few members must not have liked the way he posted(?) + I'm a good example of that; but you would need to be a complete troll or ignorant collector to be suitable for being voted off by the members.
Bottom line, it is up to the mods. If they don't want you around for any reason, it is not going to happen.
Let us not forget who owns this board.
They make the rules not us!
I used to listen to a DJ a while back that had a great idea for getting bad drivers off the road. All drivers would be issued 10 darts. If your car had three darts on it that were shot on your car while driving, the cops could pull you over and ticket you for being a bad driver. 🤪Seemed like a great idea at the time…lol Maybe we could be issued several ‘ban coins’ to target a problem user…..with a cent being a minor infraction…..or warning. A half dollar would be a ‘week’ time out, and a silver dollar would be a ban. Hmmmmmm….🤔😬
How do you look up an Ex-member if they no longer post? I did it on the who do you miss thread a while back by clicking on their icon. I want to look up Roger's and Realtone's posts but don't know how.
Again, it’s “Realone” not “Realtone”.
After you click on their username, scroll down to and click on “Comments” and “Discussions” to see their posts.
Mark Feld* of Heritage Auctions*Unless otherwise noted, my posts here represent my personal opinions.
Majorities tend to lead to the stifling/silencing of minority views. See, e.g. Federalist 51 (Madison):
"It is of great importance in a republic, not only to guard the society against the oppression of its rulers; but to guard one part of the society against the injustice of the other part. Different interests necessarily exist in different classes of citizens. If a majority be united by a common interest, the rights of the minority will be insecure."
Tocqueville also saw public opinion could become an all-powerful force, and that the majority could tyrannize unpopular minorities/views. Democracy in America, Volume 1, Part 2, Chapter 7, “Of the Omnipotence of the Majority in the United States and Its Effects.
A moderator above the give and take as the ultimate decision maker, I think, is a necessity for the Board not to become an echo chamber of only majority voices.

No but there should be an appeals process and probably an appeals committee.
If you take a pardon that's admitting guilt, we're not guilty 😉
If anything, unban georgiacop50 so I can stop seeing that ban avatar whenever his Coinstar thread is bumped up.

I'd stay up late for a Bongo Bongo remake.
Can’t they just rejoin by themselves under a new handle, or whatever it’s called, admit who they are in their first post and if they don’t do anything else that would get them banned then they’d be active members?
Mr_Spud
I could see a quarterly reinstatement vote by the members.
Honestly lots of people do this. It's the ones you don't want though.
Most of the ones you would want back won't come. If they wanted to they'd already be here.
This thread pertains to a very few people.
I could see a few alts coming back and getting banned again in a day. That's about it
The black sheep is often the only one telling the whole truth. And I have seen a few banned for doing just that.
Ironically, if you were banned for this comment it would then negate your point.

Only if it is done by the President of the PCGS.
JMO, this makes for a lively, even fun discussion but it won’t happen.

Why would the owners of this forum want to waste their time on such a foolish waste of time when they now allow anyone to sign up with an alt and even post openly that it is an alt. Anyone can come back under a new name and there are many active posters doing just that.

No. I think it's a terrible idea. Any appeal should be driven by the banned member requesting reinstatement to PCGS not the peanut crowd who do not track the history of what a poster might have done over time in this forum or other forums the member may have participated hosted by CU. Voting members may also not adhere consistently themselves with a existing rules and are not responsible for enforcing them. The ability to post here is not a popularity contest.
"Got a flaming heart, can't get my fill"
Call me crazy but I have a funny feeling he knows the proper spelling better than you.
The real(one) question is why an alt would care about their old ID so much?
I think alts should have to walk on egg shells as not to repeat their previous transgressions.

But if they don't post anymore... Wait, I can open a reply page in any thread and @realone and get it. Thanks.
One would think...but there's already someone who has posted in this thread that has probably had 100 alts, or more, and probably all banned (not just forgotten passwords)
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Our founders knew that power corrupts. A moderator has the power of a dictator and can remove anyone. We are lucky that our mods are above that.
RWB and realone are not really comparable posters. RWB was a brilliant researcher who was disgruntled by the hobby’s direction and prone to expressing that in Unconstructive ways. While Realone was an unliked troll of a poster will little to offer the hobby but a checkbook. Rumor has it his ex wife took him for most of that so there that.
Plenty would approve of RWB coming back few if any care about realone

PCGS is under new management. She must be a truly savvy administrator. It would have been something she could have done on her first day if she thought about the tiny things or knew about it to make the forum better - full pardon but it is too late for that. It would have rocked our world. Then the bad apples allowed back would self destruct in a matter of days.
Alt's are against the rules! So, your comment is hearsay. Unfortunately you cannot prove me wrong without "outing" the alts.
I don't have to, you know one.

To my knowledge, there has never been a banned member who asked to come back. Anyway, the ability to post here is an opportunity to learn from members who know more than we do. If a bad actor (I'll use Breen) was an active 5* poster of several years with 10K likes and 20K agrees, I'm afraid many here would refuse to let him teach us anything.
I know of a couple that would not return if given a chance.
There have been several. Regardless, this post has nothing to do with US Coins.

Present tense, please.
So Slick has a chance to restart his rants here ?
I'm glad that some that were given, and took, second chances are still with us
I'm a VERY forgiving person and I believe in second chances.
BUT, I do not like numerous, repeated infractions...Those people need to go.

First you want to ban QDB for a three decades old award endorsement.
Now you want to vote on rescinding the member ban.
Make up your mind... lol

Not a fan.
Alt's make it back, and that's bad enough. Most posters find another spot on the vast www.
If you want to follow at least one of the banned members you mention, they post ATC, and I can tell you from reading a little over there, I don't miss their demeanor (though their knowledge and research gets high marks).

ATS (Across The Street), but more likely to have active discussions
