This is PCGS's party. We are just guests. PCGS has clearly defined rules for this party, and if guests choose to violate the rules, I very much appreciate the fact that the PCGS moderators do their jobs well.

I used to listen to a DJ a while back that had a great idea for getting bad drivers off the road. All drivers would be issued 10 darts. If your car had three darts on it that were shot on your car while driving, the cops could pull you over and ticket you for being a bad driver. 🤪Seemed like a great idea at the time…lol Maybe we could be issued several ‘ban coins’ to target a problem user…..with a cent being a minor infraction…..or warning. A half dollar would be a ‘week’ time out, and a silver dollar would be a ban. Hmmmmmm….🤔😬
The 3 coins in your post. Would they be graded?😀

Roger would be back if he could ever find the humility to apologize and ask to come back. He wouldn't or couldn't and so he remains banned and SHOULD. He was banned for comments that were potentially libelous.
In general, under no circumstances should any corporate entity risk their reputation or their money by letting "the mob" determine who can use their services. The bans serve a corporate purpose.
This thread will be closed Monday and you will likely receive a warning. The mods frequently frown on questioning their board decisions.

No. I think it's a terrible idea. Any appeal should be driven by the banned member requesting reinstatement to PCGS not the peanut crowd who do not track the history of what a poster might have done over time in this forum or other forums the member may have participated hosted by CU. Voting members may also not adhere consistently themselves with a existing rules and are not responsible for enforcing them. The ability to post here is not a popularity contest.
To my knowledge, there has never been a banned member who asked to come back. Anyway, the ability to post here is an opportunity to learn from members who know more than we do. If a bad actor (I'll use Breen) was an active 5* poster of several years with 10K likes and 20K agrees, I'm afraid many here would refuse to let him teach us anything.

The current Forum King was also banned at one time.
I'm not religious, but I do believe in redemption.
Depending on the crime committed; depending on the malefactor's history of offenses(number/frequency/type); depending on how valuable he/she is to the community, and (last but certainly not least) depending on whether the malefactor shows true remorse and learning when discussing the matter with admins, yes, I think there are people who should get a second chance.
I believe When the forum software was changed to this current format a large number of banned members were allowed back. Many seemed to end up banned again. I thought that was when @MFeld came back but he would have to confirm.
I think that’s when Laura Sperber and RWB were also reinstated

Depends on the transgression perhaps, although one would hope that the more egregious cases would not get support. Not sure it would be practical or worth dealing with were I the host.
Agreed. I would think the moderators wouldn't want the inmates running the asylum either!

I took a quick look at @RogerB's last several comments and I didn't see anything that seemed ban-worthy. Of course, offending comments might have been deleted by the moderators.
One question is whether or not he would want to come back. I've heard that some banned members aren't interested in returning.
How do you look up an Ex-member if they no longer post? I did it on the who do you miss thread a while back by clicking on their icon. I want to look up Roger's and Realtone's posts but don't know how.
Again, it’s “Realone” not “Realtone”.
After you click on their username, scroll down to and click on “Comments” and “Discussions” to see their posts.
But if they don't post anymore... Wait, I can open a reply page in any thread and @realone and get it. Thanks.
RWB and realone are not really comparable posters. RWB was a brilliant researcher who was disgruntled by the hobby’s direction and prone to expressing that in Unconstructive ways. While Realone was an unliked troll of a poster will little to offer the hobby but a checkbook. Rumor has it his ex wife took him for most of that so there that.
Plenty would approve of RWB coming back few if any care about realone
I do not remember any specific comments by realone. Either I had no interest in the particular topic, or I chose to ignore it.
The reality is that we are guests in THEIR house (PCGS/Collectors Universe). Their rules are posted for all to read and to heed - whether we like them or not. This is not a democracy. I myself have been jailed but never banned. I've run a decent sized PC hardware review website in the past, which had it's own forums/message board, so I completely understand the hassle of having to constantly police the forum. If a moderator deems it necessary to permanently ban a member, then that is their right. It's not ideal because the forum as a whole becomes less knowledgeable, and loses value. I have even noticed that the level of professional knowledge the forum once had, has diminished - but you have to step back at take a look at who WE (the numismatic community) are, and we are a majority of older men, with a certain level of hubris, which mean that we tend to not give a flip if people disagree with us. That gets some of us banned, and it is unfortunate.
That's about all I can say about that.

One would think...but there's already someone who has posted in this thread that has probably had 100 alts, or more, and probably all banned (not just forgotten passwords)
I say BS to 100 alts. PCGS would catch them just from the server the alt is connected to.

I know of a couple that would not return if given a chance.
I know of one that posts on NGC who wrote that he would not come back to CU even if asked. It was over a year ago and his name slips my mind but he was a long time member here.
Personally, I would like the PCGS software to catch and identify alts by their old name. That would make the decision a lot easier. There are several I'd like to see back but there are a few others that are really no loss - the turd in the punchbowl posters that mistake turdiness for supreme intelligence and insight.

Chris (?) with Errors on Coins is one I miss. His silliness on the photography thread was over the top, and I miss his expert knowledge and really cool coins.

RWB and I go way back. This might be a case of "be careful what you wish for". It might go something like this recent discussion from "across the street":

Yikes! I read some of that.
I don't think RWB would last long if they did allow him back here. 😬
No real opinion on this, but there’s a few folks I’d LOVE to see back.

Well, that sounds nice, but.......
This place isn't a democracy. It's a privately owned company. The pay the rent. They set the rules.
I've been the admin of a forum that was maybe a little smaller than this one. Policing all that took a tremendous amount of (non-reimbursed) time.
Interesting thread. At least the conversation topic looks interesting. Too bad about the other stuff. Some things are hard to change.
Yeah, like human nature, stripes on Zebras, and rules.
