I know toning is a very touchy subject but I bought this coin from my lcs right after a gentleman brought in a collection of UNC indian cents. There where several in the lot with minimal toning . But this one I had to have. Now I'm wanting opinions on if you think it's natural book toning or artificial before I spend the extra cash to have it graded. This is a raw coin I just housed it in a guard house holder after I purchased it.

My guess is that it’s been cleaned, then toned, perhaps naturally, but I don’t think it will straight grade.
Thank you for the reply I Wish I could show video my pics don't show the cartwheel luster . I don't see any type of cleaning marks or sign of dipping.
My guess would be you will get a AT / QC at PCGS.
The color and blotchiness is the sign. It looks wrong to me and I suspect it would not get a straight grade as well. If you want to find out without spending a bunch send it to ANACS, their fees are much more collector friendly.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
I could certainly be wrong, as I’m not an expert on IHC toners.
Me either and I am the first to admit it lol either way I like it and love the green color obverse . Just didn't want to waist more money grading something that didn't need to be lol . Appreciate everyone's opinions this far
PCGS and NGC for that matter will questionable color that one
Looks AT all day long to me and I have been specializing in toned coinage for decades.

A very nice coin IMHO. Beautiful obverse, in particular.
If you ever do an economy submission, throw that one in. Even if it’s AT, which it probably is, the coin will be protected and probably more saleable.

The color doesn't look natural to me and I believe that a major grading company would label it "questionable color".
Also, cleaning doesn't always result in obvious hairlines ("cleaning marks").

Definitely AT; many of these will not grade due to having been fooled with.
The obverse is very unnatural. The coin did not look like that when it fell from the coin press.
Here are two pieces which have mostly their original red color.
I do not like the color on this coin at all. It has certainly been messed with.
I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.
Probably AT and that is most likely why it is not already in a major TPG slab.
I cannot tell if it is at or nt but the color is off.
Let us know what you plan to do.

Kennedys are my quest...
Even if it had got this toning naturally or unintentionally it will almost always be called AT or QT by grading services because of looking like known AT coins.
Maybe it went through the wash in someones clothes in the early 20th century and naturally retoned after. It still is unlikely to be viewed as market acceptable color by the market.
While I kind of like the color, I would not spend the money on slabbing and just enjoy it raw.

I agree with AT but I see what looks like there was PVC on the face and was remove leaving those marks on the face!
