I went 10 for 10 at last night's Heritage 2024 October 7 Bust Coinage US Coins Showcase Auction

Ten for ten in a losing way that is.

Did any forum members pick up any lovely ladies last night?

All I can say is, judging by last night's auction the CBH market is alive and very well.

None for me. If I picked up that many at one time the wife would out me out with the cat! Tight work.

Having fun while switching things up and focusing on a next level PCGS slabbed 1950+ type set, while still looking for great examples for the 7070.

Couldn't persuade yourself to live bid to snag the 1838? Sometimes, enjoying a desired coin is worth paying beyond what you think it's worth.

    Edit to add question mark.

You're making it worse, @Catbert .....I could(should) have ponied up in live bidding and snagged that baby.

A positive note, I am finally not buying every expensive pretty face that shows up at auction.

Always hurts to be an increment off.

Join the club. I have not won anything in a Heritage auction in months. I think I’m up to at least 0 for 8. Most all of them have been second place finishes. It’s becoming futile to bid there any more.

Added to that, Heritage was auctioning some Disney figures that a member of the family had designed and sculpted the molds for years ago. I bid for my wife, and we won three of them that were in one lot. Heritage broke two of them in transit when they were shipping them back to headquarters. Despite their mistake, they still wanted us to pay almost the full amount. We passed. The service was disappointing to say the least.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Being underbidder is not always bad unless you really wanted or needed it. If you did not set and stick to your max, it could have gone 20-50%+ higher and you could have been buried for years.

I set a max bid at online auction that is some sm % over bid factoring in the juice. If I lose ok w me and be sure have ample pocket if win a bunch, run the table. Then celebrate and then markup accordingly.

I did buy 4 of the cap bust half dollars. As I have posted before I am working on a complete half dollar date set. I still need about 10 cap bust date.

  • I won nothing. Strangely enough, for the amount of material, there was hardly anything I needed for my collection.
