GotTheBug - I love 1811/9 dimes and your is no exception. In the early years of the mint, I am sure they were holding the reverse dies together with rubber bands and tape. Oh, did they have them back then? Love the 2 die cracks where the cross over the Eagle head. I always wondered why the mint released them to the public?

Thanks for the compliment. I would guess that, in the early days of the Republic and the U.S. mint, that getting the money into circulation took precedent over quality. Perhaps it would have been a cost savings to keep banging away with the one die until it disintegrated, if there were no plans to mint an inordinate number of dimes that year. Creating a new die must have been painstaking, given the technology of the day.

Wow, very cool!
So unusual that it does not seem to go to the rim.
Thanks.
