another amazing number for Ohtani, he is sitting at 92 extra base hits on the season.

    can he get to 100?

And another amazing number is 17 total bases in 1 game which is nuts.
So he blows by Witt and Judge and now has 377 total bases which gives him a shot at 400. 🥳

I wouldnt be surprised if he did it again, or Acuna or Tatis if theyre healthy a full year. Acuna got really close last year and Othani has some prime years left. Doesnt take away from what he did this year, I would love to see those guys in an arms race for 60/60s though lol

I think it would be awesome! If he has a lights out week, he may get really close to 60/60 this season. I think that next year and moving forward we may see a regression in Ohtani's offense as he will be putting half of his focus on pitching. I hope not, but that is my prediction.

The pitching will be interesting. Basically no one comes back as an ace after 2 TJ surgeries and it could impact the hitting side especially as a throw right hit left guy. If he gets hurt again as a pitcher its time to shut him down and just let him be a hitter. His bats too good and even without pitching he brings in so much revenue the contract still basically pays for itself.

Its a shame he keeps getting hurt pitching. He legitimately had a shot at winning the Cy Young and leading the league in HRs before the multiple TJ surgeries

I believe he is now at 391 total bases. Hope he gets at least 9 more.

Also don’t tell mistlin but I was kind of hoping Elly de la Cruz sets the single season record for strikeouts by a batter. He could get close!

@Darin 391 total bases!! that is incredible.

I just checked and am surprised to see that there have been 29 seasons of at least 400 total bases. Has not been done in a long time though. 2001 was the last season

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Looks like Goldin Auctions is auctioning off Ohtani’s 50th home run ball.

  • Basebal21Basebal21 Posts: 3,634 ✭✭✭✭✭

Right now opening bid is supposedly going to be 500k with a 4.5 million "buy it now" thing. Theres an 18 year old suing the auction house and the consignor though claiming the ball was stolen from him in the pile to get it and trying to get the auction stopped

The sad part is that fool will likely win and get a cut even if it’s a very minor payday.

I really hope he doesnt but sadly some sort of agreement to make him go away seems very possible. Hold on to the ball tighter if you actually had it

I posted an IG link above a few days back showing the actual scrum for the ball, I wonder which guy it was? I bet by the following morning half the people diving for that ball were all thinking the ball was “stolen” from them too lol.

I looked at the video last night and it seemed like that kid didn't really ever have the ball. The guy who ended up with it was certainly closest to it under the table and the kid was kind of reaching his arm in.

The guy in the green jersey almost got it... twice.

Here you can see the kid coming in from the left. The ball is behind the purple vertical post pad there. The kid suing is the guy in the red jersey.

The guy who ended up with the ball you can see now coming in from the right.

Here that same spot is from another video angle. At this point the ball is on the ground and as you can see the kid doesn't have it. It should be right at the guy in the black t-shirt's feet now.

The guy who ended up with it has it, right where he was. The table was flipped over and now the kid has his left arm in there.

My take-away here is. Put down your phone if you want that ball kid. That's poor effort. I bet he's never jogged into a huddle in his life.

That’s when Ken Goldin takes the auction down and quietly finds a buyer behind the scene. Have the current owner tell everyone he’s just going to keep the ball and anyone asking to see it can go pound sand.

    400 total bases for Ohtani!!

currently sitting on 97 extra base hits on the season. I hope he gets to 100

Judge didnt grant the injunction but said the balls sale cannot be sold before the next hearing on Oct 10th but the auction runs past that anyways. It took about a minute to get the 500k bid and has multiple now. Last I saw its at 600k with out the BP.

This is kinda feeling like the Bonds 73 HR ball where ultimately a judge ordered the payment from the sale split

I think he is going to play today. after his big week, he is 4 points away from the batting title and the first NL triple crown since 1937.

it will be almost impossible for that to happen though, as Arraez sat on saturday and they will probably sit him again today to preserve his title. coward...

I kind of forgot they still had one more with everything already being locked up in the division. I hope he plays today, 55/60 would be pretty cool. Itll be up to him though, whatever he wants he gets

I don't think Ohtani will run nearly as often when he starts pitching again next year. I would be surprised if he gets to even 30 stolen bases again. I think he went all out this year to show everyone what he was capable of offensively.

Something I can’t understand at the moment……. You can buy an Ohtani topps or Topps heritage rookie PSA 10 for $300 or less. Yes the population of each is like 6000-7000. But that kind of pop. didn’t stop Trouty’s 2011 topps update from going to $3k.
Ohtani is about to win his third MVP, what if he ends up winning a couple more and a few cy young’s ?
Plus there’s the Japanese fan base along with the US. What if they start buying every Ohtani rookie they can get their hands on.
At this point it looks to me like it’s time to buy a few Ohtani cards.
My feeling right now…… Ohtani could be the biggest and best thing to ever happen in baseball besides Babe Ruth. 🥳

couldnt agree more. as far as i am concerned, Ohtani is already a better player than prime trout. he is also more unique, exciting and has had more memorable seasons/moments. after one game he also is more accomplished in the postseason than trout. Ohtani is also right in the middle of his prime where trout is on the steep decline side.

I’m already looking forward to seeing what he can do on the mound for the Dodgers next year. Who knows maybe 20 wins 50 HR. 😀

Craig in the past week I’ve been thinking a lot about this thread and the regular season Shohei just had. I think I’ve been realizing I should have a greater appreciation for what he’s been accomplishing. And I am going to be buying some rookie cards. 👍
