Did anyone bid on CBH's at last night's Heritage ANA US Coins Signature® Auction?

Some of the nicest CBH's I've seen in an auction of late.
So many were PCGS graded with CAC approval to boot.
My record last night.
Don't get me wrong, there were some beautiful Bustie Ladies in that auction, but two and three times PCGS price guide levels?

There were some great looking bust halves for certain, and I ain’t even a nut!
30+ years coin shop experience (ret.) Coins, bullion, currency, scrap & interesting folks. Loved every minute!
After the first 5-6 crossed the line I knew it was going to be expensive. I was not disappointed. Some excellent coins. The AU58+CAC's were off the charts.
I started tracking paddle numbers pretty late but there were several bidders getting many of the coins.

The AU58+ 1807 going for $33600 really set the mood I guess, there were no bargains to be had last night.
I put in low ball bids on some of the 58’s and 58+’s, but didn’t really expect to win any

I thought I put in strong bids on several and wasn’t even close.
Some new whales are surfacing 🐳
BHNC #248 … 130 and counting.
Where are those whales? I have some CBH for them…
It probably has nothing to do with anything but I just found out I won an 1839 Bust half NGC 35 for $170.00. I have been throwing what I consider to be low bids at this date for a year or two and they always went for $200 or more. Maybe everybody spent there money on the Monday auction so nobody cared about the Tuesday offering? However this is just an average coin so probably has as much to do with the Monday coins as it has to do with whales. James
Glad I won though!
Sold for $52,800 in April 2021.

Wow! Did you win it? @Goldbully
In my dreams, Dave.

Mine too! 😩
This is one I really wanted and couldn’t believe the price

I was a bidder on that 1810.....great coin, insane $$$
This is as far as I could pony up.....
I think the last group of the HA CBH just ended. There were still some top $ prices on several lots I thought.

I missed this thread earlier this week.
Some of the prices on Monday seemed crazy. There were some fantastic coins, for sure, but as @Pnies20 mentioned, there seemed to be some suction whale stuff going on. But there were also regular strong players out in force too. Both Monday and for Platinum night on Wednesday. Or was that Platinum afternoon this year?!
The top 58's and 58+'s were VERY strong on Monday IMO, just like the Finest-knowns on Wednesday.
This afternoon was a bit more normalized, but some of that may have been that there were many more 55's, and some fatigue from the last two weeks. While some where very strong and realized very strong prices, other than the high color coins with the high contrast images, there weren't too many moon shots.
Just my opinion, of course.

Those must be some of the ones I was watching that seemed top $ priced. Don't recall all but went back and this was a few I had written down (hopefully correctly as I didn't login just now to check). I think a few of the tougher type ones appeared strong also.
Hammer $ I wrote down / Final $

This one looked cool I thought but have a decent 1817 XF so I just watched it.

I will summarize what happened to my bids - SMOKED..........
I looked at all 3 in hand and will say the 1819 is the nicest coin of the 3 without a doubt.
I put a strong bid on the 19 but came up a couple increments short. I’m cheap… it was that nice.
BHNC #248 … 130 and counting.
I agree with @Pnies20
Yeah he's cheap ... but that 1819 O-110 today was a great coin with superb eye appeal in hand.
All three of those you posted @lilolme went for big money today IMO, but I thought the '19 was the best value of the three
.
And for those wondering, yes I know I just cracked open Pandora's box and am bound to take a load for the first part of the comment! I might even deserve a little of it!!

I did some lot viewing at ANA and liked the 1819 also. Put in some bids and I thought I had a chance but then... Not.
Three bids short.
But I wonder if someone hit the cut at 5250 if a 5500 would have been forthcoming. Sometimes being a bid short is actually more than that.

I received my post bid email from Heritage today. Family matters kept me from sitting in front of the computer at 2pm on a Sunday but would not have won anything if present to bid. For several lots I was $1000 off on my max bid and in some cases $2500 too low.
Congrats to the winners.

This Heritage auction rocked it I thought.
But also.... I bid on Sunday and had minor success (no killers).
Got a package notice on Monday and package in hand on Tuesday morning. Woah Heritage.

I finally had a few wins last night in the Heritage Tues/Wed auction. They were also part of the Gerrie collection.

Cool. Hope you got good one(s) for you.
I saw those and there were 3 dates I didn't have and one of them I thought 'Yes'. But had just sent payment for other and received shipment. Maybe a little burnout, so I passed. Might have kept us from bidding on the same one(s) again (noting 1819 above).

I watched last night as the last of the Paul Gerrie coins crossed the block. Three of my friends were bidding, and I had decided not to bid, but just to enjoy texts with them about their wins and misses.
A couple lots last night seemed to be fueled by last weeks moon shots, and a few of those winners may have hang-overs on re-entry.
I won five lots on Sunday which greatly encouraged my lack of key-board action last night. That, and I hadn't seen any of the coins last night in-hand.
My winners cost me two at my max bid, two 10% below and one at 30% below. No real bargains except maybe the 30% below my max which was easily the rarest of the bunch. All were very good coins I had viewed in hand, and felt good about winning. None had great images.
Several of the lots Sunday went screaming into wonderland, especially high-color coins with high-contrast images, but it seemed much more normalized than Monday's last feeding session. Although the prices were still strong for almost all the really good coins. But there were still a fair amount of moon shots too.
As for last night I tend to wonder when I see mostly attractive 55's go for 62/63 money, and designer toners with beans go for 2x and 3x where they would be otherwise.
My 2c ... YMMV

When comparing auction results for the bust halves generally using the ANA experience, which is the better venue for bust half consignors, Heritage or Sheridan?
"Got a flaming heart, can't get my fill"
My first thought? Ask Sheridan about a CBH currently listed on Heritage.
Depends on what you’ve got, honestly.
BHNC #248 … 130 and counting.
#
It depends Cat. But it is a good question. Terms aside ...
Some of it depends on the coins, and some on the scale.
Paul Gerrie put together quite an impressive collection. While I think there was some risk putting so much out at one time, the market received it very well, and I am very happy for him and his family in that respect. Heritage did an excellent job cataloguing most of his coins, and did justice with good images on most of those as well, and really ran a pretty good sale I think.
I had a Heritage Rep' tell me that the lot viewing was garnering "a lot of attention, especially the Early Half Dollars."
Sheridan would not have put out that much in one sale, so in this case, it might not be a comparison that can be made.
20 or 30 (or 40) coins of that caliber in Sheridan's Sale would have garnered a LOT of eyeballs and drawn very strong bids ... but if that was the extent of what Heritage had, they may have slipped through the cracks a little.
Ultimately in this case, the sheer magnitude and overall quality of the sale made it a must view for enthusiast, and became a must attend for even casual collectors of our great series.
This propelled the sale into a fantastic success for the consigner from my perspective, as auction fever took hold and many of the prices were well beyond "very strong".
My 2c, of course
“We are only their care-takers,” he posed, “if we take good care of them, then centuries from now they may still be here … ”

I bid once and won once. Not one of the eye popping examples in this auction series but hammered for just under PCGS retail and a date that has eluded me for my set.
Can’t go wrong with OGH and CAC. Great pickup
BHNC #248 … 130 and counting.
After striking out dozens of times during the Gerrie Collection auctions I finally put two in play on Tuesday night. Looking forward to seeing them soon.

Got lucky on the sister target toners. Amazing collection, shows the strength of bust halves.
My type coin that I’m hanging on to is a ‘22, I love the design of those curly deuces!
