1898-S ... MS64.
That is a beautiful Barber Dime, but I can't tell what is on the cheek under the tone. Is that a scratch, a die crack or just an anomaly caused by toning. Not very good grader with heavy toning. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful dime.

Im assuming what appear to be minor hits are luster or toning breaks. With the toning, market graded as a 67.

Having fun while switching things up and focusing on a next level PCGS slabbed 1950+ type set, while still looking for great examples for the 7070.
When you’re that far off from everyone else, it can be a good learning opportunity. Take advantage of it.

Beautiful, detailed photo @FlyingAl
It hits like a 67 at first, but the small mark behind Liberty's nose (unfortunately highlighted against the darker toning on her face) and the chatter above the N on the reverse I think push it to 66 - maybe 66+.

Beautiful coin and pic! I am with the crowd. Can't decide between 66 or 67 so 66+.

Guys, it had only been a few hours. I usually give about 24 hours before I reveal, because often these posts don't get that many guesses in the first few.

58-62. I would probably dip it if it were mine.

Don't worry, it won't be yours, based on how you grade it.

Dipping this one has to be a numismatic crime. I cringe at the thought...

It probably wouldn't dip well. The very dark toned areas near the rim would likely end up with a flat, lifeless appearance.
We have a comedian!
Just kidding. Don't know if dipping rises to the level of numismatic crime for this one but it certainly is a tempting idea for one looking to sell to a collector who likes his coins shiny and bright and is willing to pay up for them. The toning is too dark for my taste but who am I to tell others what they should like?

66+, depends on how much the cheek bothered the graders in-hand tilting it under a lamp. Otherwise it is a remarkably clean coin, beautiful example.
