Yes, when the selfish owner ( well known in the registry) didn't remove the coin when was asked, PCGS retired his set.
He then sent me an email thanking me for getting his set retired...............ha ha ha
Trying to blame me for his selfishness, maybe he learned his lesson.........
I just wish PCGS would do this more often, maybe it would inspire the owners to remove there coins when they submit them for auction or sale.

What did the retired set owner have to do to re-activate his coins back into his sets?

In that case (retiring his set) he was still able to maintain the set's all-time rank (wherever it may have been) -- had the individual coin been deleted, the ranking drop may have become permanent. That guy should be thankful for that much, at least -- if he's refusing to remove the coin, and refusing to communicate with you about it, and THEN decides to communicate after the fact, well... he ain't got much of a defense to speak of...

I believe he had to contact PCGS registry and have them un-retire the set.

If the set has less than 90% completion, when it is retired it does not stay in the all-time ranking list. If it was above 90% complete, is stays in the all-time rank list.

You can retire sets and keep all the coins. Then later if you want, you can call or email PCGS and they will unretire them. If you haven't sold any of the coins, all of them are back in your active set just like before. You do not have to add them individually at all.

If a person sells a coin and did not release it, but the new owner sent in their photos and got it into their registry, then if PCGS retires the original owners set, when they ask and they reopen it, it will be at a lower rating and will not have that coin in the set. All of their other coins they still own will be in the set and they do not have to add them individually.

Honestly, since PCGS will not fix the registry for errors in many of my sets, I really don't care about them or the registry nearly as much anymore. I have literally dozens of top graded medals that get no gold highlights, or bonus points. The whole thing is a joke.

The Kennedy set with 73.59 grade is another example. I have told them several times about how to fix it, and it stays wrong for years now. The set composition has CA and DC bonus points for some coins and not others. Basically, NONE of the coins should have CA or DC bonuses except the 1964. From 1992 to date all are DCAM so they are not special at all. Even, if they would just eliminate the CA and DC bonuses entirely, it would also fix the set calculations and be more realistic.

    @Goldminers
I am totally in with you on the Kennedy Half Dollars set with the grades above 70.
I tried also for many years to have them fix this set. I remember having discussions on here of why any set should have a grade of over 70.
I was informed by many that the DCAM coins deserve the extra point so the grade should be highest at 71.
Took a lot of flak and just gave up trying when the conversation turned to it should be even higher because...
    In my set, I have a 1964 pr68 Dcam which outweighs a pr69 cam.
With the pr68 Dcam, my grade and rating is 73.543.
The set grade and rating with the pr69 cam is 73.500.
That is a difference of .043 points which is a big deal in set rankings.
My set is currently ranked 9th and I am only .005 off of being ranked #1.
In order to reach the #1 ranking, I would have to replace the 1964 pr68 Dcam with the pr69 Dcam.
For whatever reason, I still believe that a 69 grade is better than a 68 grade but not according to PCGS.

What also irks me is that a coin set worth can be different.
In the Kennedy Half Dollar Silver set, a 1995-Silver has a Weight of 3.00 CA Bonus of 1 and a DC Bonus of 3.
The same 1995 -S Silver coin used in the Kennedy Half Dollars Complete Variety Set, Proof (1964-Present)
receives a Weight of 1.0 with a CA bonus of 0 and the DC bonus of 0.
    No consistency in set-to-set use.

Wayne - I would leave neg feedback, not neutral.

I am not at that stage yet.
The coin is listed as "this cert is currently in a user's private set registry inventory.
This is why I contacted the seller directly as I do not know who actually " owns" the coin.
I can only wait to see what Pcgs does.
    Wayne

Here is an email that J received today from the seller.

It has been years since I put coins in the PCGS registry and I had forgotten that I had listed the coins. I have taken your advice and have removed all the coins that I have listed from the PCGS registry. I apologize for any inconvenience that I have caused you.
    Enjoy the holiday season.

Me taking the high road on his feedback, has paid off with at least this seller.

They need to retire a persons set every time a request is made. Then maybe folks will get the picture...
