I don't wanna get in on a fight here, but that coin looks quite lovely to me. Really pretty rose coloring! I'll bet it looks great in hand.

Not the greatest toning but I like it.

I like the obverse toning... looks to have rose color luster hidden in the devices. I'm not a huge fan of the unevenly toned reverse...

Edited to add... you're right though, this is a particularly tough date/mm...

It has a nice skin, which I think covers some attractive toning on the obv.

Just wondering where she's been tucked away to cause that affect on the rev.

The 1917 S type one gets more notoriety but the 1917 S type two is much rarer in high-grade. PCGS population is 115/106.

This is a MS 64 near gem with full head and full shield rivets. The toning actually looks lighter in hand, even though the images aren’t really that dark, IMO. The image is a PCGS trueview. As you can see, the toning isn’t spectacular, but it looks original to me. I like the light rose color, as well. There is plenty of luster underneath.

I’ve only seen two sell, recently. One was a MS 66 FH and the other was a MS 64 FH and both had a much weaker strike than this coin. And both appeared to be dipped out.

I don’t know when I’m going to be able to find another one. I have a week to decide, but I think that I’m going to keep her. She looks the way a 107-year-old ‘mature’ lady should look..😉 I don’t care that she doesn’t look like an MS 68 star. The toning she has looks like what you would find on a WLH proof. I am in awe of her absolute and condition rarity. I think she looks acceptable to me. Now, I’m 93% done with my SLQ date set.

She looks better than "acceptable" to me, and if there is soft luster under that toning then she really is a keeper. Nice find!

Uneven toning is, in this case, quite appealing. The coin itself is great!

    Real nice coin!

This is a very clean, exceptionally well-struck coin. I conjecture it's in a 4 holder because the powers that be deem its eye appeal to be just so so. I have one in 5 which has more eye appeal than this one, but I prefer this coin, as it has cleaner surfaces

Thanks Walkerfan. I used to pay quite a bit of attention to them until I got the ones I wanted. In the Type II of the series, the early dated Philadelphia mint coins are the most well struck. You'll have a hard time finding an Unc. branch mint coin with full shield, rivulets, etc.
