What is a Cheerios Dollar and Cent two-coin set in the original packaging worth these days?
Just finished wading through eBay's morning offerings of things I have an interest in, and lo and behold there are two new two-piece Cheerios sets offered. One of them is out of the original packaging, slabbed by our hosts with the dollar as a 68, and priced at over $11,000.
The other is still in the original packaging so you can't see the reverse, but you can see the obverse and it does not have the die marker under the date that I have shown is present when the coin has the pattern reverse. It has a starting Bid of $5,000 and a BIN of $6,500.
I ask because I have a two piece set in the original packaging WITH die die marker that I am thinking of selling as is, on the theory that posterity should see a few sets in their original packaging. I'm just funny that way.

I am not familar with the die maker for this coin. Would you be kind enough to provide a picture of the marker?
Thanks

There is one on eBay right now with a bid of $5,000.

Just a guess 😉 - maybe that’s one of the two that was mentioned in the opening post: “It has a starting Bid of $5,000 and a BIN of $6,500.”

I would want a set in a dual coin holder from PCGS.

I'm not normally a fan of multi-coin holders, but I saw a Cheerios set in one at LB last week and thought it looked great.

Be that as it may, I am not talking about a slabbed set. I have a two-piece set in the original holder I am trying to figure out an asking price for.
I understand where you're coming from regarding the urge to keep them in the original packaging, but you are going to maximize your return by putting the dollar into PCGS plastic. There will always be people skeptical of buying them uncertified, and what if the buyer opens the packaging and returns you a normal $? Ebay probably allows it, and you're out big money.
I kind of wish PCGS would slab the prototype dollar alongside the General Mills card.
Good luck. I want to own one someday, too.

You can't see that die marker area from the sellers pics.

Never mind. Some one believes it's real.

Some of the closeups showed the die marker area well enough for me to be convinced that it did not have the die marker, and I think I can claim to be the expert on the subject!
So what is my sealed set worth as is with the die marker?
I had no idea Cheerios coins commanded prices like this. Never before in numismatics have I been so gobsmacked.
Do you know the whole story about the dollar?
Maybe then you'll only be gobslapped instead of gobsmacked.
Quick skim - it appears they made separate dies for these, they textured up the tail feathers a bit, there were only 5500 made, and far fewer are "out there". OK, so it's rare. $6 grand? My gob remains smacked.
I certainly defer to you. I didn't think the seller pictures (no matter how much I zoomed in) were good enough for me to see that die marker.
I'm probably losing something here in translation.
So you're saying someone just paid $6,101.00 for $1.01? Are you saying the sale was fraudulent and not a Cheerios dollar?
Here's another one that sold back on Jan 18th.

Unless I'm not looking in the right places, I'm not seeing any other examples of recent sales in the original packaging.

Here's the story.
http://www.smalldollars.com/dollar/page20c.html
Actually the pattern design had too much texture, and the coin designer told me that he took the texturing lines out of the tail to make it appear more white, as does the tail on a real bald eagle. The regular coins were then struck without the extra lines.
I must have missed that one.
Can't tell from the pictures if it has the die marker.
Very curious listing. Down in "SPECIFICS" it says "ANACS" and "MS-68," yet it was being offered in the original General Mills holder. Had I seen it and been interested, that would have scared me off.
Yes, not sure how knowledgeable that seller was with that specs listing.
Disclaimer: I'm not a dealer, trader, grader, investor or professional numismatist. I'm just a hobbyist. (To protect me but mostly you! 🤣 )
I think I am a bit more knowledgeable than that seller. I just don't want to break up the set and/or pay FeeBay fees.
$5500-6000 is vary fair for a sealed raw set. A 68 $ is worth close to $10K A 67 maybe $7-7500
Problem is you cant see the reverse, so its a gamble.
A 2 coin holder for this set is very appropriate.
I saw the PCGS set at Long Beach too...it was at my table

Can't tell from these pictures which variety it is, though I suspect that it is not the pattern reverse. Doesn't PCGS automatically put the FS-number on these if it IS the pattern reverse?

Should have sold it in 2008!
Yah double holders only work when one coin is at least 90%+ of the value and the pairing is intuitive and something most people would collect together. Almost a value add to the one coin. If they are split value wise or specific to the original owners taste they will be a hard sell

what has been the lowest graded by any of the TPGs? Lots of us are looking at the circulated ones and I am wondering if any have been found.
ANACS has certified two circulated ones
I’m a little late to this discussion but great points from everyone. I agree with Segoja one of these is probably reasonably priced at $5500-$6k in original packaging with the die marker.
I’m much more skeptical of the offerings such as on eBay from untrusted parties that lack the die marker because of potential tampering with the original package.
I hope this one finds a good home because it is RARE to find original packaging WITH the die marker these days.
Not sure if you've seen this one.

I realize everyone has to start somewhere, but I would not buy from that seller at this time.
I have seen it. I cannot tell from those pictures whether or not the piece has the die marker or not.

What about the original Cheerios Hot Wheels car in original packaging? I would still trade straight-up for those two-pack Cent-Dollar options! LOL

It appears one was recently sold in the same area on Ebay that looks similar. Possible return?
Very low transaction seller.
Looking at the pictures and where the holders were cut apart from the packaging roll, I don't think so,
How the Cheerios coins were packaged in long strips before being cut apart.
Ended at $6,766.
And you can't even see the tail feathers. This stuff just blows my mind.
Has anyone here found a Cheerios dollar in circulation? If so, what is the value of a circulated specimen?
